It's the Aug 1! How is that possible? What was your favorite book you read in July? What was the worst?

My favorite in July was The Fault in Our Stars with Iron House and Gone Girl coming in close behind. My least favorite was A Lady Cyclist's Guide to Kashgar which had such promise but fell flat for me.
SO glad you loved The Fault in Our Stars, Annika! I'm embarrassedly still in Defending Jacob, so it's the only book I was reading in July. It's been a strange summer with very little reading time. I'll finish it soon (I really DO like it) and then move to Tatjana Soli's new one, The Forgetting Tree. I received an ARC of it from BookBrowse and will need to read it and post a review for them within a reasonable time. It's pretty long, too ... GULP.
The Age of Miracles was the best. One of my least favorites was All the Flowers in Shanghai: A Novel, which I would describe as clumsy historical fiction. The award for predictably disappointing goes to Lone Wolf.
Lol Theresa. Oh Jodi Piccoult. When will I stop...I won't. I did not read much in July but my favorite was Gone Girl. No least fave.
That's how I am Vickie. I need to make sure I will like them. I actually don't buy half as many books as I used to and even get favorite authors at the library fairly often. Then if I really liked it I'll find it for cheap to own. I think Gone Girl is pretty different from her other two. I enjoyed all three especially Dark Places. Gone Girl had more depth though. I did get it at the library myself but own the offer two. When I worked at Borders I rescued them from the Bargain Section. Lol

Every time I read a Jodi Picoult now, I am thankful for the library, where I get all of my books. Otherwise, I would be weeping over the money spent.
I think my favorite was The Dressmaker, but I also started reading Jan Karon Mitford series last month which I really enoyed - I must have, I've read 6-7 of them now.LOL! Of course, I was on vacation & had run out of the books I had with me. My least favorite was Love Creeps: A Novel which I didn't even finish.

The worst book I read in July is The night Strangers by Chris Bohjalian - I did not have a good book to list - a month of so,so,so books.
I started a few, but had to return them to the library. I did read sleep towards heavenSleep Toward Heaven, and enjoyed it. I hope to get to Beautiful Ruins again.Beautiful Ruins again.

Worst-"Gone Girl." I couldn't get past ch 1. Best-"The False Princess," by Ellis O'Neill. I also read a lot of Anne Perry mysteries which were good.
Worst: A Prayer for Owen Meany (don't hate me). I couldn't finish it, only read about 90 pages before I got sick of feeling like it was a chore and not a joy to read.Best: Inside Scientology: The Story of America's Most Secretive Religion. (I only started this one in July; I finished it this month.) This was a five-star read for me. Really, really interesting, and EXCELLENT investigative reporting on the part of the author. That could not have been easy AT ALL! I applaud her!
I didn't read anything I really loved in July (not counting Inside Scientology). Actually, about half, or maybe more, of the books I've read this year have been duds. :(
