What's the Name of That Book??? discussion

This book took place in the south US. It's fiction about a female doctor/surgeon who realizes she can think about healing and/or talk to the blood vessels during surgery and they magically "sew" themselves up. It turns out she's from a family of witches but she never knew that. I can't remember most of it - part of me wants to think there is a devil or devilish creature in her life that starts to cause problems for her as her powers become more finely tuned. I read this well over 20 years ago and can't remember the name or any more about the novel. I thought it was Flowers in the Attic, but thats a completely different story. Then I thought it was an Anne Rice book, but I don't think so either. Any help would be appreciated!

I think it was an Anne Rice book about the Mayfair Witches. The devilish creature would be called Lasher. The book would be called The Witching Hour.
