Marcelis strolled in the garden, deciding to enjoy the little free time he had. He was alone, which is what he cherished. The garden was pretty. Birds were chirping, and the air was intoxicatingly fresh. He was whistling, and examined a tiny rose bud. A late bloomer, huh?
Marcelis jumped when he heard footsteps, and turned around. "What are you--" he realized his mistake, and fumbled with his apology. "Sorry, my Queen, I didn't know you were there." Stupid, stupid, stupid. Marcelis ran his fingers through his hair, trying to calm his nerves.
Marcelis stopped running his fingers through his hair, and met her gaze. "Marcelis. But you can call me Minho."
The smell hit Eli before the glare of the early sun did. Maybe if there was just a gentle breeze and an open field (like most yards), Eli could have resisted sneaking outside, but the smell was too sweet, and dangerously close to the smell of his grandparents’ greenhouse. The memory brought sudden tears to his eyes that he quickly blinked away. “Must be allergies,” Eli lied to himself.
He began walking along the maze-like path of the garden, occasionally stopping to smell a particularly bright flower, or trying to get a butterfly to land on his finger. His jacket was back in the palace, thrown on his bed in the soldiers’ quarters, along with his belt and socks. The standard black military boots had been tossed at opposite ends of the small room. Right now he was in an untucked white t-shirt and pants he had rolled up to his knees. He was also barefoot. If Eli got caught, he’d probably have his head chopped off. What a cliché way to die.
Eli was not meant to be keep inside at all hours of the day. He had just gotten off the night shift, and the thought of returning to his windowless room induced severe nausea. Before he could stop himself with rationality, he had thrown off most of his offensive uniform and headed straight for the side-entrance of the garden. Craving fresh-air and sunlight. He prayed to every deity out there that he didn’t get caught. While his mother and father raved about how wonderful Queen America was, Eli wasn’t convinced. The preparations for the upcoming Selection had taught him that most of it was one giant show. He had a hard time believing in the Queen’s kindness, even if she had been a 5.
Marcelis thought. "Well by excited you mean nervous then yes, very. It's going to be a handful, but I could take it." He said smiling, he ended his conversation and waved as the Queen left. Time to start doing my job.
Eli stopped dead in his tracks. On the other side of a hedge, he could see the unmistakable red of the Queen’s hair. “Speak of the devil,” he thought to himself. She was talking to another guard, one with black hair. Before either one of them could spot him, he dove into the hedge (this was not kind to his uncovered skin). His heart was bonding so hard that Eli was sure it would break out of his chest. Their talk was short, but with every short breath he took it felt like eternity. Finally she went to go greet the first 6 selected. The boy was left standing there. Eli hoped he couldn’t see or hear him. Too bad he didn’t realize part of his pant leg had ripped, and could be seen slightly on the other side.
The boy moved, and Eli noticed at the last second the pant fabric was sticking out. He pulled it back in before he could notice. Thankfully he went back into the Palace. Then it hit him-the Queen is going to meet the selected, as in they're here, and he's supposed be in the Grand Hall waiting for them. He was dead. He had to rush back before anyone noticed, but he was so far away. Peeking his head out first, he untangled himself from the hedge. Most people would run to the door, but Eli crept forward, knowing running would be too loud. Hopefully he wouldn't run into any unexpected quests.
The problem with creeping, especially for someone who was 6'2, is that you have to crouch down. So you don't notice when the black hair guard returns, guiding a Selected girl. And he happens to be on the other side of a bush where he can easily see you.
Marcelis smiled back then noticed a familiar coloring of hair. Eli? Marcelis was only two inches shorter than Eli, and he turned his head. "Uh... c'mon Jamie this way." He changed their pace to the opposite side.
Eli jumped realizing his mistake. He peaked his head out, with a sheepish grin on his face. "Hello miss, lovely day for a walk around the garden huh?"
Eli looked down, remembering he had taken off his boots. He looked back up at the girl,"I swear I'm not homeless.” Of course it was Minho, he should have recognized his signature messy hair- he’d never hear the end of this.
"Yeah, in exchange for what?"thought Eli. "That uniform is way too tight, I'm used to spending my days shirtless." Eli blushed realizing what he had said in front of the girl.
"Yeah, I'll ask you to cut off your fingers and let me keep them as a gift. Of course I don't want anything in exchange. A guy makes one attempt at something nice and someone already thinks it's a ploy." Marcelis shook his head, and crossed his arms over his chest.
"Hmm, I can understand why you'd want them though, my fingers are rather nice." Eli pretended to admire his hands, as an excuse to not look at the girl.
"Not if it meant having to hold onto dear old Marcelis,” Eli gave the girl his famous Cheshire grin, cupping his mouth with one hand like he was going to tell her a secret, “You’re much too charming to be hanging out with a grump like him.”
Eli grinned; Marcelis was so easy to poke. He needed to socialize more. "Well you have to admit this look suits me." Eli stuck a ridiculous pose, flexing his muscles like he had seen some of the surf bums do at the beach to catch girls.
((LOL LOL LOL!!!!!!!!!!!! oh my god! my tummy hurts from laughing))
"Now I will do something completely stupid now. I'm sorry Jamie, but I have to go. I'll leave you with this shank for now." He started to walked away but whispered something to her. "Tell him he got something in his teeth for me would ya?" Marcelis smiled, and walked away.
(lol thanks)"Bye, bye Marcelis!" Eli gave an exaggerated wave, "Don't miss me too much while we're apart!"
"My mouth?" Eli scratched at his teeth like he was trying to get something out, "Sorry, don't mind that, it's just the sparkle." Eli gave her his most charming smile," By the way, what's your name?"
"Jamie Terri," Eli repeated the name. "Hmm, it suits you. My name is Elliot Ryker, but everyone calls me Eli," he bowed slightly," It's a pleasure to meet you."
"Uh." All the joking around had made Eli forget he was still in danger of getting in trouble. "I'd be more than happy to take you back to your room, or the women's room if you'd prefer, I just have to find a way to get back into my uniform before anyone sees me, especially one of the royal family."
Eli was surprised to see concern on Jamie's face; he hated it when people were upset. Maybe a little adventure would be a nice welcome to the palace, "How would you feel about seeing the real version of the palace? I know how we can sneak back in, it’s just in an area you aren’t meant to see.”
Maya, age four, had parted from her sister while they went on adventure of their tour of the place. Maya was blind, of course, and she didn't ear anyone she recongized. She walked straight into a patch of flower and fell inside, her floral printed dress blending with her surroundings.
(yeah, but only for like a min, I'm about to get lunch with my mom, I'll be able to do more in like an hour or two.)“No promises,” laughed Eli. He gave Jamie a wink to let her know he had everything in control…at least he hoped he did. “Okay, follow me, do exactly as I do. If you have any problems following me, just yank the back of my shirt.” Eli crouched down and began weaving through the garden, careful to make sure he and Jamie were always somewhere hidden from sight.
((Jamie and Eli are my new favorite pairing o - o))Maya sneeze and the patch she was hidden in rustled.
Hillary finally found her way to the garden.
Maya peaked from the flowers, and sneezed as she sniffed the pollen. She crawled out, not caring if she stained her dress. Maya felt the ground, and kept crawling until she bumped into Jamie's leg. "Oops."
((awwwww i think im gonna die because of her cuteness))
