Around the USA in 52 Books discussion

I was thinking it would be nice if people could post their favorite local authors or books set in their home state on here for the challenge. For instance, since I'm from Maryland, I might post Madison Smartt Bell and Anne Tyler. Someone from Louisiana might post something about Erica Spindler.
What do you guys think? I think it would be useful to find people's favorite local authors for the challenge.

Great idea, Melissa! I'm from North Dakota and I noticed that almost everyone has a Louise Erdrich book on their list. Now, Erdrich is a fine writer, but if you are hoping for something a bit different, I would suggest The Big Rock Candy Mountain, The Children's Blizzard or Peace Like a River, all set in North Dakota. I would also consider biographies of famous persons who lived in North Dakota like Teddy Roosevelt, Roger Maris, Phil Jackson, Buzz Aldrin or Peggy Lee.
