High Country by Nevada Barr. We can start with January if you want, or a little later.
I thought I'd pick a book that is in my to be read list and is my own type of reading interests and would pick off the shelf. I've tried picking books that would please us all other times, but this time I want to try my style of reading. I love her writing, she is very suspenseful, descriptive, and a lot of the things I love in a read.

I'll pick April and ... hmmm ....The World Before Her by Deborah Weisgall
(But, you know, if people don't want to read that one ... I have ten other books on my "Book Club possibilities" list ... )
And Ashley: Read Beauty Queens a couple months ago. Loved it - can't wait to discuss it. It's the sort of book that demands discussion.
Great picks! Just fyi, Amazon has Lauren's selection--The World Before Her--as a Kindle book for a mere $2.40. That definitely qualifies as a BARGAIN. Quick! Download it!
Thanks for the Kindle Tip! Went ahead and paid for it. Been looking at you all's selections so far. What a fun and diverse group of books. Hope we like them and they are as good as they sound.
Ashley, forgot to tell you something. I went recently into your blog, and just wanted to let you know what a great job of writing you've done in it. I really enjoyed reading the books you've selected, as well as our picks too. Good Job! Also best wishes with your upcoming delivery. Really excited for you there too. I think you and I are the only two that have not missed a book, but you are definitely excused.
If any of you have email addresses of those I have not received yet, I will need it so I can send some information about the "Luncheon of the Boating Party" that I want to send to you. I can forward them on to other members to them too. Best wishes all!
Take care, Carol

I PICK THE WINTER PALACE BY EVA STACHNIAK, A NOVEL OF CATHERINE THE GREAT. YOU FIGURE OUT THE MONTH. I LOVE HISTORICAL FICTION!
Awesome! I heart Catherine the Great! How about February, as nobody has picked it yet and, well, what better time than winter than to read a book called the “Winter Palace,” eh?
By my count, we still have May, July, August, September, October, and November wide open. Anybody else?

Anybody game to pick a book for May? If so, we'll be nice and booked (pun totally intended) through June, which is half of 2013 and pretty darn good.
Feel free to kill this idea, won't hurt my feelings at all, but would we be interested in plugging in the "Hunger Games?" There was some interest, and I saw people still reading it, but no comments made in area set for it. Again, just an idea.... or we could read Book 2 or Book 3...I haven't read those yet. Could put it in the nice "Buddy Read" category you set up~!
Julie, how do you feel about May? Unless I hear differently, can I plug you into that month?
Re: Hunger Games. Another possibility is November. Sybil is scheduled with "19 Minutes" and leading discussion beginning December 1, but she's expecting her third baby in December, so I've messaged her separately to see if she wants to bail (if it were me, I'd want to bail!). As someone in her last month of pregnancy, I assure you that MY mind is completely elsewhere, and my to-do list is insane. So, stay tuned as far as what we do for December.

Ladies, I've been doing a pre-read of my selection for January called High Country. I've been some disappointed with it compared to several others I've read of hers, and have gone back and read reviews, and apparently I'm not alone. I hate to start you on a new author that isn't her best work.
Could I change books? Don't want you mad at me for either reason.
I'd like to change to the same author, but book named
"Blind Decent." If that's ok, let me know, thanks - Carol

I'd be happy to take one of the open months as well. Thanks Diana. I could do August or October or November if others haven't already taken them.
I'm not positive, but I think we agreed to skip November and December from here on out due to the holidays.
Sure, Diana, if you want to select something for and lead July, go for it! Carol, do you want August?
And Lauren is right about the hiatus.
Thanks, ladies!

OK, For July, I pick:
The Revenge of the Radioactive Lady by Elizabeth Stuckey-FrenchGenre: Humor
**Updated: Post# 25
Book for August:
Gift from the Sea by Anne Morrow Lindbergh (1975)
This has been on my TBR list for a LONG time, and it is a small book and only 140 pages. I think we should be able to endure this one. I'm guessing several of you have probably already read it. I haven't but looking forward to. Couldn't copy an image in there, but the book should be fine.

Oh, I love that book! It's one of my favourites! :DI'll be going to the beach a couple times this year. It will be perfect to re-read it there. Just lovely!!!

Diana, no one but me has signed up for and are reading your book for September. Has something happened that I'm not aware of. Seems I'm the only one still involved much with the group. Fill me in if you know something that I don't.

DO WE HAVE A LEADER AND A LIST FOR 2014? I CAN PICK AND LEAD AT LEAST ONE (MAYBE 2) IF YOU ALL ARE WILLING. CAROL, WOULD YOU BE OUR ORGANIZER? I SUCK AT COMPUTER HAVING HAD SECRETARIES AND TA'S MY WHOLE LIFE, AND I DON'T REALLY WANNA LEARN MORE THAN I KNOW AT THIS TIME--AT LEAST WHERE ELECTRONIC DEVICES ARE CONCERNED…
I will pursue being leader. Don't forget that Ashley selected DRACULA for October. I was surprised how much I liked it. Am looking forward to her questions.
I am very willing to let you pick and select one or two books. I know that Lauren has one or two that she wants to do too. I need to meet with Ashley so that she can help me with the changing of the guard.
Ashley, thank you so much for your help in being such an awesome leader. Mighty big shoes to fill. Mine are just different.
Per you all's decision we will have November and December off, so read to your heart's content. My other book club just met yesterday and we've got the first six months of next year picked. Some interesting picks.
Thank you all for your support. Ashley, Alisha, Julie, Cheryl, Diana, Emily (hope I didn't forget anyone) and new ones, looking forward to working with you too.
Our October book is Dracula, we'll need to post a folder and update the current reading shelves.
Like to welcome the new folks to our group. We are an awesome group of women from all over the country. Feel free to chime in so that we can get to know you. Happy Halloween!!ooooooo0000000oooo

I mean this in the nicest way possible, but do we perhaps want to make sure our intrepid leader wants to step down before we hold a nominating convention? Also, I know she's had a rather busy couple of weeks, and I'm not seeing any rush in choosing books for 2014, so I say we all focus on reading Dracula for the time being.
