Claudia Living Dead in Dallas (Sookie Stackhouse, #2) by Charlaine Harris

The Maenad was really a surprise along with Sam in the woods...LOL

Claudia I really don't like Eric in this series...who else out there feel the same?

Kirby I actually really do like eric...not sure why, he's just so entertaining! wasn't this the one where he gives sookie his over the top, flowery apology? it cracked me up...

Anne Claudia wrote: "I really don't like Eric in this series...who else out there feel the same?"

I haven't read much of this series, but I keep seeing on other discussions that Eric is so nice and he really loves Sookie. But I must admit, from reading this one, I don't care for Eric one bit.

Marcia I can't believe people don't like Eric by this point! He is a vampire, not a person so why expect him to act human. He already saved Sookie in book 1, and then does her this hysterical favor in book 2. Book 3 is another step in the right direction when he refers to her "future" with him. I smiled the whole time:) Once you see what Bill does in book 3, I'm pretty sure you won't be on his "team" anymore.

IUHoosier I have to agree with Marcia, I hate Bill after book 3, but I always loved Eric. I don't see her ending up with him at the end of the series, though - not unless she completely changes her mind on staying human.

Anastasia I've always loved Eric, and always disliked Bill, from the start of the series onward.

Eric doesn't actually do anything to hurt Sookie for the first... zillion books, I don't remember. Bill is a tool.

One of the key differences is that Bill has always felt more in touch with his humanity, but he can screw with Sookie's life and hurt her anyway. Eric starts off as a jaded, much older and less human vampire, and learns to behave more humanely around her as he goes, because he likes her.

Rita I liked Eric, when he, wasnt himself.

She does have feelings for Eric, but does not want to admit it. For some reason she is drawn to him.Could be the blood exchange. I like Quinn too. Bill, I think really loves Sookie, but dont know if she can ever forgive him.

I don't even think of that Eric was the real Eric. CH destroyed his character. The Eric we followed through the books would never make the decisions Eric makes in book 12.

Claudia I got Club Dead the third book in the series for $3 dollars at this bargain store in the mall. I wasn't going to finish out the series. Truly I find it boring but interesting. LOL...what the hell $3...just couldn't pass that up

Rita It took the first 3 books, to really get in to these books. Give it time, because, CH, will make you feel, ever emotion possible out of you. Thats the way it is for me anyway. How many of you, have read,LJ Smith's series, The Vampire Diaries? They are a really, good read. Theres 17 books in this series so far. Next 1 comes out Oct,23. She really isnt wrighting them anymore. They have a goast wrighter, so books will follow the TV series better. I really could tell with last 1 I read, & really better.

Rita I'm reading, From Dead To Worse, & Don't think I've heard of Neal. If I have I don't remember him. Of course, I usually don't get a chanch to start reading untill, 11 or 12 Oclock PM. I still think Charleine is a good author, but not like, Stephinie Meyer's. Somebody fill me in on Neal, please.

Stephanie Meyer, and CH are both terrible writers. I prefer CH because I actually enjoy her storylines (well, I used to). I've only read the first book from TVD series, and I hated it. I've heard the show is better, but I don't want to give it a go because I hated the book so much.
Niall appears in the tenth or ninth book I believe. Saying anymore would be a spoiler I suppose, but if you really wanna know: (view spoiler)

Thank you. LJ Smith, sure gets her characters, out there on different worlds. Exactly which book did you read of VP D? I saw a big differantance in the last 1, I read.

I've just started, book 8, & I know Sookie, has fairy, in her. Think it introduced in the last book I read. I think, Stephinie is great. Have you read the Host? Its beautifully wrighten.

Rita Refresh my memory, on the nice ending in,Living Dead in Dallas. I cant remember it.

Fatin Rita wrote: "I think, Stephinie is great. Have you read the Host? Its beautifully wrighten."
I don't mean to sound offensive, but if you think the author is great, you should at least spell her name right. Otherwise it seems like you don't know all that much about her. :)

As for The Host, I've read it and although I liked it better than Twilight, I don't think it was written well either. Better than Twilight though, in terms of story and writing style both.

I agree with you... The Eric that considers Freyda, and pressures Sookie in such a way, is not my Eric... But all together, i didn't like book 12... The whole thing with Niall, Claude and Dermot seemed preety rushed to me...

Won't write more about it, since I don't know to make the "hide spoiler", for those who haven't read book 12...

Will just say, that in my opinion, CH should have taken more time with book 12...

Agree, Agree, Agree.
Eric is by far the best developed vampire in the series (in the beginning books). He is a gorgeous, thousand year old viking with a hard on for making people's lives miserable. But I loved the soft spot he has always had for Sookie. It makes him, almost (but not quite) human.
Bill from the books is not the same Bill from TB. Bill in the Sookie novels is a miserable dude who is always whining and let's be honest- BARELY even enough of a character after the first couple of books to be important.
Quinn. Oh my. God I love that were-tiger. I wish he were in the books still, and I wish TB found a place to fit in a Quinn character, but saddly- NO.
CH seems exhausted with these books and should have wrapped them up sooner than she will. 2 more books from her might be the death of the whole series for me. The fairies have made me want to hang myself, and this new development with Eric getting married off to another vampire...ridic.

Fatin Mich wrote: "this new development with Eric getting married off to another vampire...ridic."

And asking for Sookie's help? Eric would never do that. He's not like that. He handles things on his own.

Mich wrote: "Quinn. Oh my. God I love that were-tiger. I wish he were in the books still, and I wish TB found a place to fit in a Quinn character, but saddly- NO."

Maybe, just maybe in season 6?

Mich wrote: "Bill from the books is not the same Bill from TB. Bill in the Sookie novels is a miserable dude who is always whining and let's be honest- BARELY even enough of a character after the first couple of books to be important."

I still prefer him to the religious zealot, jerk, self righteous asshole from the TV series.

Rita I haven't seen any of the True Blood programs at all, because I didn't have HBO. I do now, & got the DVD, for first season, & no time to watch it yet. I'm reading the books, & they are great. CH, can pull every emotion out of the reader. Bill, really hurt Sookie, in the book, & not in them so much now, So Eric, is getting married? What happened to Quinn, or is it in the book? I'm reading, Dead to Worse, now.

The TV program, is nothing like the books, thats why they have the new, gost writer. they want the books to stay closer to them. TV is much better than, LJ.

Eric, is just 1 of those charcters, you just love to hate. For some reason, I think he loves, Sookie, but could be wrong. I'm on book, 8,& just started it.

Nuran I like Eric, he's sexy, a little bit sweet and funny and sometimes cute. He was the only thing I liked out of this book. Billy's personality just seems to be getting worse and Sookie just seems to becoming more trashy.

Maggie I've been torn as to who Sookie should end up with in the final book. Sam seems like the most logical choice. Eric is the one who holds her heart for most of the series and there's no doubt of his love for her. I think Sookie still holds a torch for Bill but I don't know if she'd ever go there again as he wasn't really an attentive boyfriend. What I'm surprised about is that none of these posts mention Alcide. When Sookie first met him, I thought for sure he'd become a love interest for her (replacing Bill) but CH hooked her up with Eric. I have to admit that I was disapointed by that as I like Alcide. I guess in a few months we'll see who Sookie ends up with - even she even picks any of these guys.

Imoortals after dark series is quite good, but it is far more erotic based plot than true blood. Strictly for adults! Don’t have to start with the first one either. I’ve started in the middle and then working my way through the series choosing books that have the couples I like to most read about.

message 37: by Rita (new) - rated it 4 stars

Rita Thank you. I will check it out, when I'm finised with the Trueblood, novals. I haven't been reading at all, for the last, couple of months. Giving, my eyes, a rest.

message 38: by Leah (new) - rated it 5 stars

Leah I really like Eric in the books, although I have only read as far as book #8 (and am currently re-reading the series and am on book #5) so I'm not familiar with the Eric of latter books..But I really find Eric very entertining-except for when he was under the spell, funnily enough wasn't overly gone on that side of his personality! I think that although Eric is essentialy a selfish being,Sookie draws out some of his more human tendencies.

Rita- I got you girl (however, my suggestions are more adult than YA)
Immortals after dark, is almost tongue and cheek to me, not my favorite. They are all very fast reads with no real continuous story. Every book in the series is a new story.
(I have read 6 of them, reviewed most I think and they are decent)
***You may really love Jeaniene Frost: The Night Huntress Series...These were a WONDERFUL read (again more vampires) I read this series right after the Sookie novels, and was truely in love with it. The first book is ok- but I promise the series is an easy read, with wonderful characters and TONS of vampire awesomeness..lol
**I started Black Dagger Brotherhood (vampire books) and they are really good. Again- Erotic type books, but with a really fun/good plot line.
**AND If you haven't read it yet Rita...PLEASE do yourself a favor and start the FEVER series by Karen Moning. It is the best series I have EVER READ. It's not overtly erotic like the rest, and the storyline will blow you away, 5 books, plus 1 world book in this series and still growing :)

My all time favorite UF series is the Fever Servies by Karen Marie Moning. It is 5 books and they do go in order. It is not a paranormal romance, but does have sizzling chemistry btw the lead charachters. So good!
