Carol | 53 comments Oh yes! A horror would be good.

message 4: by Richard (new)

Richard if it's horror can it be more specifically Ghost Stories - halloween is a time for cold chill fireside classic victorian ghost fun

eg Turn of the Screw or Woman in White? The Haunting of Hill House?

or more modern ghost chillers?

Chris Stanley (christinelstanley) | 922 comments Ghost stories are always a favourite, love Susan Hill or FG Cottam, The Waiting Room is excellent if you've not read it.

message 6: by Angela (new)

Angela (bookangel2) | 1454 comments As it's Hallowe'en at the end of October, I'd go for ghost stories:)

Chris Stanley (christinelstanley) | 922 comments October theme is Horror and/or Ghost. There didn't seem much point in having a poll. Let everyone in on what you find for October.

Chris (calmgrove) Going to have to revisit M.R. James, as I failed to get on to his Collected Ghost Stories in a previous challenge.

message 9: by Carol (new)

Carol | 53 comments I'm going to reread 'Salems Lot' by Stephen King.
Loved the series on TV with David Soul and really enjoyed reading the book first time around.
Here's to scaring myself silly, again!!

JackieB | 251 comments Well I've got a collection of M.R.James stories, so I might go for that, or maybe The English Ghost: Spectres Through Time. Mind you, I've heard The Haunting of Hill House is quite something and I've had a copy of that in my TBR stash for ages. It'll take me until October to make my mind up!

Should you go for the M R James I would be interested in comparing notes (or reviews, as you certainly have done a lot of those!).

OK I'll commit to MR James and then we can discuss and decide which story is the scariest. Actually, I wonder about all of the reviews I do. I do them because I use reviews a lot if I am undecided about a book, so it only seems right to review the books I read. On the other hand, I wonder if Goodreads really needs so many of my opinions about the books I read. I still do them though. It's a bit of a habit now.

Chris Stanley (christinelstanley) | 922 comments Jackie I like to see your reviews because you seem to have a similar taste to me. In fact I check out all of the groups opinion on books; after a while I got a feel which reads I'm likely to enjoy, I go poking around everyones "read list" for inspiration sometimes (gosh that sounds stalker-ish). Unfortunately it has led to a rather large TRB

I own this....probably from your review of it!

I have to 'fess up to snooping among everyone else's read lists too! One of life's little pleasures, even if it does mean an out of control TBR list.

Haha:) I think we're all "coming clean" - me too!

message 18: by Carol (new)

Carol | 53 comments I've just finished Salem's Lot and still found it scary.

message 19: by JackieB (new)

JackieB | 251 comments I'm really enjoying the Collected Ghost Stories of M.R. James, but I won't finish them by tomorrow. I'm going to continue reading them into November.

message 20: by Chris (new)

Chris Stanley (christinelstanley) | 922 comments I went for a very traditional edgar allen poe! Scary but excellent!

message 21: by Angela (new)

Angela (bookangel2) | 1454 comments I'm a bit behind with reading, so have only just started a short story collection called Every House Is Haunted by Ian Rogers.

message 22: by JackieB (new)

JackieB | 251 comments I'm still reading Collected Ghost Stories. They are so good I'm really taking my time. I might not finish by the end of November.
