I'm happy to announce that our fellow group member, Lady Danielle, who's been a member practically from the moment we started the group, has agreed to be listed as our co-moderator. (It's a good idea, IMO, for a group to have a second moderator for backup; and besides, a group dedicated to the admiration of female heroism ought to have a female co-moderator! :-) ) We all owe Lady D. a big vote of thanks for stepping up to the plate, and I personally appreciate it a lot!

Thanks for asking, Werner. This is a great group and I am glad to help out anyway I can! Thanks, Jim!
Danielle you do a great job over at the BDB group so I'm sure you will do a wonderful job in rthis group as well.
January 5, 2016 Journal entryDear Fellow Readers:
Someone named Werner shanghaied me from the streets of Goodreads, got me drunk on good book recommendations, and kindly asked me to co-moderate this group ... or face kissing the barrel. Here I am, determined to make the best of it on our voyage. All I ask is that when you think of us on this briney trip, and as time allows, you email us a book recommendation or several. Save me from being tied to the mast.
Best,
Jon A., Ensign
Jon, we're all appreciative of your willingness to take on this job! Danielle and I can use your help. Sorry I didn't introduce you to the group (my week's been a bit hectic so far); but by now, having been in the group for some time and posted on several threads, I'm guessing you're already pretty familiar to the others. (And you'll probably make second lieutenant in no time. :-) )
Because of various circumstances going on right now, Jon isn't able to continue as a co-moderator at this time. We all appreciate his contributions to the group during his time in that post (and of course he continues to be a member). A big thanks to one of our most active members, E.G., who needs no introduction, and who's stepped up to the plate and agreed to take his place. E.G., Daniele and I appreciate your willingness to help out!
How does a person become a moderator of any GR group ? And what about the nicknames decided for moderators ?(I've seen it in some groups.)
Ash, good question! Any time someone starts a Goodreads group, he/she automatically becomes the founding moderator. Any moderator can then appoint a co-moderator(s).In the unusual event that a group finds itself with no moderator at all, the Goodreads program opens up a slot where any group member who wants to volunteer can take the position. He/she can then name other moderators, if desired. There have also been rare instances where the founding moderator never named a co-mod, and then lost interest in the group and abandoned it, but without officially resigning the moderator role. In those cases, if a group member contacts Goodreads and explains the situation, they sometimes make that member a co-moderator.
In most Goodreads groups, the moderators don't have nicknames; but I'm in one group where they do. In that case, the nicknames were just made up by one of the mods, as a joke.
Hope this helps! :-)

Thanks !!
Although, as founding moderator, I've served this group as a co-mod ever since we started back in 2009, it's become clear that due to my responsibilities in the face-to-world, I need to cut back significantly in the amount of time I spend online. That includes stepping down from some of my greatly-overextended moderator roles. So after 14 years of service, I'm resigning as a mod in this group, though I'll still be a member. But E.G. and Danielle are still our co-mods; so we're in good hands!

Well, since my message last fall, circumstances have changed again, so I'm glad to be back on the moderating team once again. (I've started more than one Goodreads group; but this one will always be close to my heart!)
