Catperson | 6 comments Hi there. i see that there are no discussions on this.
Im A, and i found mortal engines a few years ago. i love the whole book of the first one and the the end of a darkling plain the most. the others are pretty darn amazing too. i recently had a chance to meet philip reeve and go to a writing workshop of his. unfortunatly, though, i couldnt make it.
Whats your favourite mortal engines book, and why?

Jed (specklebang) | 10 comments There have been earlier attempts to get a Mortal Engines discussion group going but sadly, there just aren't enough fans.

I loved the entire series. The only 2 I haven't read are Web Of Air and Scrivener's Moon. I got the impression from Mr. Reeve that there would be one more book in the prequel Fever Crumb series and I'm waiting for that and then I'm going to read them all again, starting at Fever Crumb and ending at A Darkling Plain.

I've got signed editions of a few of them and a custom drawing of my cats sitting on Shrike's lap that Mr. Reeve did for me.

Gustavo Lucciola | 2 comments I live in Brazil.
If he ever came here, I'd be on the signing with a pile of books hehe.
I still need to read A Darkling Plain. I've been stalling a bit, because I know it all ends there

Jed (specklebang) | 10 comments Have you read the 3 prequels?

message 5: by Gustavo (new)

Gustavo Lucciola | 2 comments No, going to do it after Darkling.
But aren't them a loooooong time before the main saga?
I'm gonna miss the characters, mostly

message 6: by Catperson (new)

Catperson | 6 comments I've read the prequels, but I don't love them that much. They're ok, and I like the way shrike features in them. But there's no Hester...

message 7: by Jed (new)

Jed (specklebang) | 10 comments So, if ME is one of your favorites, what are your other top, top, top favorites?

During the ME sequence, I wanted an explanation of the traction and stalker culture. So, I wish I had read the prequels first.

message 8: by Catperson (new)

Catperson | 6 comments Yeah, I think it would have been handy to have a bit of back story on the history of the world.
I did actually read Fever Crumb first, because I didn't know about the others and Fever Crumb was just on my shelf and I had nothing to read.
My other favorite books are the Chaos Walking trilogy. I'm in a group for them.

Catperson | 6 comments oh, sorry. considering my first post, it turns out there was actually some other posts on this group. I just didn't see them there. sorry.

Hey all, great to see some more discussion here! I'm not sure which one is my favourite... they all stand out in their own right as unique works. All the same, Infernal Devices really shocked me- it was so gritty, brutal and intriguing. By the way, if you haven't already, check out the photos section, I've uploaded a few new ones!

Jed (specklebang) | 10 comments Maybe ME is just getting too old to arouse much interest. Another example is Uglies, another fantastic series that you never hear about anymore.

Its unfortunate that ME was never done in audio. I'd love to listen to it instead of my planned re-read of the whole 7 books.

message 13: by Jed (new)

Jed (specklebang) | 10 comments I really can't pick a favorite either. They are all sequential and they are all good.

message 14: by Catperson (new)

Catperson | 6 comments Oh... I just missed Philip Reeves book signing when I went to Edinburgh. at least I got a pre-signed copy of a darkling plain, even if the cover made it look terrible.

I think an audio book for this series would absolutely rock. Mmm... maybe a free- time project?

message 16: by David (new)

David Griffiths | 3 comments What about a communal project? A chapter each?

message 17: by Jed (new)

Jed (specklebang) | 10 comments I've tried communal books and they were just awful. A professional reader is a pretty specific talent. Add the copyright issues and regrettably, probably not.

I'm surprised Audible overlooked these. Maybe we're just a very small group. I wonder how popular these great books were?

ME has had a pretty massive impact- I mean, look at the reviews! All the same, I don't think the series has had as much international, overwhelming popularity as a lot of the big young- adult fiction franchises have had.
I'd absolutely love to do a project where- instead of a chapter each- we each assign a character, and someone else is the narrator. If we're honest about our abilities (aka only doing it if we think our acting will be sufficient) and don't sell it (for copyright reasons) it could be of immense value to us and anyone we know who likes it.
PS this is altogether hypothetical at this point- just some ideas!

message 19: by David (new)

David Griffiths | 3 comments That sounds much better...I prefer radio plays to audiobooks, and that would work nicely

message 20: by Catperson (new)

Catperson | 6 comments That's a really good idea. Radio plays are good...

I've got some ideas for how we could do it if we decided to take it up.
I'm 19, so I don't think I could be Tom- perhaps Shrike? I've got a really good recording mic, so I can record at home and get it done relatively quickly. Anyone got preferences for who you'd like to voice? Remember, only do it if you are confident in your own ability.
To collaborate, we could upload each individual recording we each make to audiofarm.com or yourlisten.com. That way, we can all download each others stuff and review it, as well as edit it or just listen to it!

David Griffiths | 3 comments Love the idea, I'd be happy to participate in some way. I guess what we really need is for someone to sit down and convert the text into a script, and number the lines to help piece it all together...any volunteers?

I'm doing Year 12, so I wouldn't have the time for it myself, this year anyway.
