With 5 days left in the month, I'm unveiling February 2009 Reading Challenge. We will be having a theme challenge called "Share-the-Love, Love a New Author"

As readers, we tend to be overly loyal to authors that we are familiar with. February's challenge is to read 9 books that were written by authors that are "new" to you, meaning this is the first time that you have read their work.

Challenge Duration: February 1 - February 28, 2009

Ack! I'm going to have to see what's on my shelf from authors I've never read before. I sure hope that I have some, though I'm pretty sure I have a couple. I know i have the three Patricia Briggs books, Moon Called and etc. Rats, I did that with several of my books this month! LOL. Oh well :) Fun fun! Good luck everyone!

We are not really strict with the genre part, so, as long as they are new authors to you, it would be okay.

This is great - I've only recently joined the site and I loved the idea of your January challenge.
Now to go search my bookshelf for new authors!!

Tammy, I absolutely adore Patricia Briggs and her Mercy Thompson series, so I commend you on your choice! ;) However, if this is your first time reading her I just want to make sure you're aware that Iron Kissed is the third book in the series and I would really recommend you read them in order. Of course you're welcome to tell me to mind my own business as well. LOL

I love this challenge. I've got a stack of books that I HAD to buy immediately because they looked so good but I have yet to read them. This is the first challenge I've been part of so I'm excited. Great idea!

Oh Yz...you're killing me! I didn't realize you were going to run two different challenges in each group. Okay...well I guess I have my work cut out for me. There may be some overlap between the two challenges.

*giggles* You don't have to play both challenges if its too much..but since the books can overlap it might not be as hard as you think..LOL..If you look at mine, some of them are also in my RRR Group Feb Challenge and some are BOM reads.

LOL..Half of our list would be our BOM reads..so the similarities are there. You can officially start reading 12:01 am.

oh boy, oh boy, oh boy--this one is going to be HARD. I've at least read short stories by almost all of the "easy" to get authors in this field. Not sure what to do. (scanning shelves deperately, frantically going through Amazon.com and the library listings)

Even if its not a book that someone else has posted as wanting to read--I've still read books by them.
Come on folks, I need suggestions.

What about that book I emailed you about? Also, I have a book on my shelf that might work for you. It's a loaner from someone else and I plan to read it next month. I'd tell you the author but I don't remember... HAHA... I'm going to read it in February now. :)

Dawn, I think I'll probably end up reading it. I'm pretty sure I have it. :) Like 99.9% sure. I need to go through and dig out nine books so they can sit together. LOL

Yz: Oh you bet imma start right at 12:01 AM. I am a night owl so I will have a head start on all yall that have "lives" during the day.

I'm a night owl as well. Even better, I live on the east coast! SO while everyone else is clock watching, I can be reading! HAHAHAHA

But we'll see if I am at the point of starting a new book then or not. :) Right now I'm reading a book and I have one I'd like to follow it up with. If I can get them both done by the end of the month, woot! Otherwise I'll just wait till I can wrap up whatever I'm reading. :)

I don't really have a life, per se. Just two cute boys that need schooling that draws me away from my TBR. :) They are worth it though. I live for them, and they are all I want. If I get eaten by the TBR monster, so be it. LOL

I've read a few of Lori's books, including Blue Moon, and really enjoyed them. In general, the weres aren't the good guys in the stories, but there are, of course, exceptions. =)

We went through my stacks today on the phone. HEHE So I now have a stack of 7 books to return to her and 7 books from my TBR for her to read for this challenge. It feels good to be giving HER a bag of books for a change! HAHA

quick question--I just finished a book that I picked up by accident (the central character has almost the same name as that of another series I wanted to start reading) and didn't realize til I went to put it into my "read" list on this site that I'd already read other books by that author. They were using a slightly different form of their name, I guess to keep the mystery different from the horror/PR books that I'd previously read by her (Chelsea Quinn Yarbro was the author--and the books I'd read by her before were in her Saint Germaine series)

What happens if you discover something like that? Further examples are: Katie Maxwell, who writes under 3 different names, depending on what genre it is. Andre Norton (yes, I did have to get her in) who has probably 12 pen names, mostly male pen names from back in the "golden age" of scifi/fantasy when "women didn't write THAT kind of books". There are others that do the same thing, so anyway--what about those kinds of books?

Even if its the same writer, but under a different pen name, let's just based it on pen name then. Like for example, I've read a lot of Nora Roberts, but I haven't read any of her works as JD Robb, I'll consider JD Robb "new" to me.

Yeah, I think if they're using a different pen name, you can assume the style or type of book is fairly different from their other stuff, so I think it counts.

Cool, Jael. Yeah, they're steamy, Ione more so than Singh because Singh's characters have to break down barriers, etc., so you have to wait for the good stuff, LOL. ;)

I just finished the book I was currently reading and am now not-so-patiently waiting until midnight to get started on my Feb list. :D

Egads. Start something now. Even if you use it as the car read while waiting for people to do stuff... I mean what on earth are you going to do between now and midnight?

THough I'm one to talk, I'm hanging out on facebook wasting time. Instead of being useful and reading. But I finished my 25th book earlier today and think I deserve a breather. ROFL

LOL, I've been reading some graphic novels to pass the time. And I really should be working right now. I'm a freelancer so I have to kick myself in the rear every now and then to stop myself from reading and actually get some work done lol.

I have a novel to edit, but I got distracted with reading. LOL So I've decided I must tackle that in February. But I also want to read nine books for the challenge. I hope i can find a way to do both along with everything else.

I did finish my 25th book for January. I do admit that some were exceedingly easy. Those two Dr Who novels flew right through. One of the 25 books was a graphic novel by Jim Butcher. I also tore down wallpaper in my kitchen and dining room over the space of a week and listened to six audiobooks. So that sure helped my numbers! :)

It's FEBRUARY!!! I can start reading! *GRINS*
