That looks like a very exciting read, thanks!

Hello to allI'm new to the group. As far as this topic goes, well--I studied archaeology in college (merely undergrad). Ancient history was one half of my dual major. I remember doing at least one term paper on underwater archaeology.
Here's just one indicator of how many wrecks there are off a given spot on the coast of the Americas:

Of course the big success story was Mel Fisher and the Atocha galleon.
Observations as a new member:#1: group guidelines appear every time a member posts?
#2: I don't think I was rude or disrespectful towards Edward last night in my reply to his conspiracy-theory-spam. I don't speak harshly towards any person in any reading group (I moderate 5-6 groups myself, so I know what abuse really is). But if a little 'caustic tone' creeps in in a rebuttal to someone's ideas (when they are offensive or poorly-founded) I think that's acceptable. Heated discussions which are 'idea vs idea' can still be perfectly civil and polite.
#3: Edward is now a deleted member? This, I don't understand. He was not abusive to anyone. I've found that booting-people-too-quickly-from groups merely causes bad feeling. Many moderators might not realize it, but hosting a group is a pretty serious responsibility. It is in effect, providing a mini-democracy. Stifling anyone's voice arbitrarily, is antithetical to a forum's purpose.
#4 If Edward himself is removed from the group, why maintain his swastika post on the forum?

Hi, Feliks, and thanks for the questions.
1. Yes, group rules do appear each time. I apologize for the inconvenience.
2. Thanks for your input.
3. No, I did not delete Edward as a member. I simply deleted the subject. It was not a topic for our group. We're a group of readers who enjoy sharing books. I created essentially to meet other readers and get some new book recommendations.
4. I only kept the return comments advising Edward that this group was not the right forum for his topic. Sorry if this is confusing the way I did this. I did this because he re-posted his topic after I had deleted the original conversation.
Best!

I've been reading a lot recently about discoveries underwater. Underwater archeology is a wonderful branch that seems so under appreciated. I read a lot about its technologies and discoveries when the Titanic was found (my first historical love! -- Before Leo, by the way). Now they're finding so much more about ancient Roman and Greek cultures. Of course, many discoveries of Cleopatra and Alexandria are deep below the waters as well. Its exciting to read new discoveries, and I look forward to seeing how the field advances. Perhaps they need an Under the Sea Indiana Jones to make it popular? As a fan of Michele Moran, she put up this article, which I thought would be fun to share:

I also subscribe to Archeology magazine. Its got TONS of amazing articles and up-to-date research. I'd recommend giving it a once over to see if it would peak your interest as well! This past issue had surprising scant information about ancient Egypt, but there are so many other realms to explore. I'm sure next issue will give me a little more of my favorite topic! Related to the above underwater topic, this issue of Archeology actually has a piece about preserving underwater specimens! Check it out!
