message 5: by Arow (last edited Nov 07, 2012 06:12PM) (new)

Arow I had way too much fun looking at books to read for this sub-challenge. I can't wait to start reading.

I have created two lists as I am hoping to read all 20 books. Updated lists so that no publication year is repeated.

Group One
A: Adams, Douglas Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency 1987
B: Blake, Michael Dances with Wolves 1988
C: Card, Orson Scott The Abyss 1989
D: Davidson, Diane Mott Catering to Nobody 1990
E: Evanovich, Janet Naughty Neighbor 1992
F: Fowler, Earlene Fool's Puzzle 1994
G: Graves, Sarah The Dead Cat Bounce 1997
H: Harris, Charlaine Shakespeare's Christmas 1998
I: Isenberg, Jane The M Word 1999
J: Jackson, Melanie Moving Violation 2010

Group Two
M: Meier, Leslie Trick or Treat Murder 1996
N: Neggers, Charla The Waterfall 2000
O: Olson, Karen The Missing Ink 2009
P: Palahniuk, Chuck Stranger Than Fiction 2004
Q: Quick, Amanda Scandal 1991
R: Reichs, Kathy Bones Are Forever 2012
S: Sefton, Maggie Knit One, Kill Two 2005
T: Thayer, Terri Wild Goose Chase 2008
U: Unsworth, Barry Pascali's Island 1980

Okay had to re work the second reading list but I think I have everything covered without any years repeated.

message 6: by Melanie (new)

Melanie (melaniethepler) | 81 comments Not sure if I will stick with this or opt instead for some books that were already on my TBR list but will break the "chronological order" pattern...but this is a tentative list! I'm excited; there are some books/authors on here I'd never heard of, but they look great!

J: Joyce, Graham The Tooth Fairy (1996)
K: King, Stephen The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon (1999)
L: Larsson, Stieg The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest (2000)
M: Mitchell, David number9dream (2001)
N: Needham, Jake Laundry Man (2002)
O: Ogawa, Yoko The Housekeeper and the Professor (2003)
P: Perrotta, Tom Little Children (2004)
Q: Quindlen, Anna Rise and Shine (2006)
R: Richman, Alyson The Lost Wife (2011)
S: Smith, Zadie NW (2012)

I might sub in Dark Sister or Inventing Memory: A Novel of Mothers and Daughters for "J" (the first published in 1992, the second in 1997), Lost for "M" (published in 2001), or Nemesis for "N" (published in 2002).

Impressive! I wanted to only use books from the 1001 Book to Read Before You Die list, but haven't been able to get both alphabetic and chronological order to work yet.

Christin (lunaratu) | 267 comments I don't thing I'm going to try for chronological order as I have so many to-read books that I own that I want to try and do those first ^_^

A: Aeschylus - The Oresteia: Agamemnon / The Libation Bearers / The Eumenides
B: Butcher, Jim - Side Jobs: Stories From the Dresden Files
C: Caine, Rachel - Ill Wind
D: Dawson, Delilah S. - Wicked as They Come
E: Euripides - Ten Plays by Euripides
F: Franklin, Ariana - The Serpent's Tale
G: Gaughen, A.C. - Scarlet
H: Hearne, Kevin - Tricked
I: Ivey, Eowyn - The Snow Child
J: Johnson, Alayna Dawn - Wicked City

Except for a couple I own all of these books as they're part of series or by authors I've read previously. I hope I can get to do another round after this but as I am starting another degree this Fall (this week even!) I don't know what my time constraints are going to be

Thanks for seeing this Christine. You are correct, that book is not eligible for ABC.

message 15: by El (new)

El | 300 comments my second list (which I'm going to be doing first) is:
Kipling, Rudyard Captains Courageous 1897 (lex 1020)
Louys, Pierre The Woman and the Puppet 1898 (this may be replaced by an unknown book)
Mirbeau, Octave The Diary of a Chambermaid: A Naughty French Novel 1990
Norris, Frank The Octopus: A Story of California 1901
Ober, Frederick Old Put the Patriot 1904
Parry, David M. The Scarlet Empire 1906
Quiller-Couch, Mabel Kitty Trenire 1909
Rinehart, Mary The Window At The White Cat 1910
Stoker, Bram Lair of the White Worm 1911
Tolstoy, Leo Hadji Murad 1912 (which has exactly 100 pages, that's allowed right?)

I hope I have time to read them all. It might be a struggle seeing as I have exams at the end of November.

Bea, I just answered Rebekah's question about Alexander McCall Smith, and he apparently is alphabetized under McCall, not Smith. You probably want to rethink your list.

Cory Day (cors36) | 1205 comments I'm new to all this, but I think I have two lists that work, in case I have time to read both. Here's the first; I can't deal with typing the second on my iPad right now.

1969 - Angelou, Maya - I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings (1070 Lexile)

1978 - Colwin, Laurie - Happy All the Time
1980 - Doctorow, E.L. - Loon Lake
1982 - Eddings, David - Pawn of Prophecy (900 Lexile)

Rosemary, Lorna Landvik and Laura Lippman have books published during that time frame. Hey Lois Lane, why do I feel like I'm in a Superman comic? (smile)

Rosemary, I just finished reading The Tall Pine Polka by Lorna Landvik. It was published in 1999. I would classify it as a character study as it is about the residents of a small town. Good story.
