Katrina Welsh (katrinawelsh_) We've all had books that we were so excited to read. Ones that we've been waiting on for so long that you jumped up and down when you finally had it in your grasp. Ones whose covers or blurbs or authors or people got you itching to turn the pages. Ones that are part of a series and you waited a year for it to come out and the last installment was so brilliant that you just have to find out what happens next. Then, you finally read it. And it was just... meh. It was a big disappointment. We've all had those books? Which ones were yours?

Samantha | 146 comments Does it mean books that I wanted so long that I was disappointed in after I read them? Or just books that I couldn't wait to read?

message 3: by Katrina (new)

Katrina Welsh (katrinawelsh_) Sorry. Books that you wanted so long but was disappointed after reading.

message 4: by [deleted user] (new)

I was super excited for: Destiny and Deception (13 to Life, #4) by Shannon Delany Throughout out the first books in the series, I thought each one was better than the last. Then this one just totally fell flat for me. It was bad; it just was not nearly as good as the others, and I found myself very disappointed in it. Though I am still holding out hope that the next one will bring the series back on track.

message 5: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 146 comments I was excited for Matched (Matched, #1) by Ally Condie because everyone had been going on and on about it for months. So I figured it had to be good and couldn't wait to read it. Then it wasn't nearly as good as I expected and not very interesting either.

message 6: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 146 comments Btw Katrina, this is a good idea for a discussion topic :) I like it and I'll be making sure to keep checking up. It's cool to see which books were disappointments lol

message 7: by Lady (new)

Lady | 10 comments Not YA, but I was so excited for 11/22/63 by Stephen King . Buuuut It was so long (800ish pages) and I felt like it could've been substantially shortened. The middle was boring and the ending made the entire book pointless. For YA, it would probably be City of Bones (The Mortal Instruments, #1) by Cassandra Clare City of Ashes (The Mortal Instruments, #2) by Cassandra Clare City of Glass (The Mortal Instruments, #3) by Cassandra Clare . I couldnt even finish the City of glass. :(

message 8: by Cookie (new)

Cookie (cookie_monster_zebra) | 63 comments Catching Fire (The Hunger Games, #2) by Suzanne Collins and Mockingjay (The Hunger Games, #3) by Suzanne Collins were just getting worse and worse compared to the original Hunger Gamer book:(

Katrina Welsh (katrinawelsh_) Samantha wrote: "Btw Katrina, this is a good idea for a discussion topic :) I like it and I'll be making sure to keep checking up. It's cool to see which books were disappointments lol"

Oh, thanks, Samantha. I was interested in what books others were disappointed with because I just read two books that I was disappointed in myself. And it's good to serve as sort of a filter for the books that I'm sure others are excited about but didn't exactly deliver.
I recently read and was disappointed by Perfect Chemistry (Perfect Chemistry, #1) by Simone Elkeles and City of Bones (The Mortal Instruments, #1) by Cassandra Clare . Everyone had been gushing on about both books and I was pretty excited to see what all the fuss was about. Turned out, there wasn't much in both.
Jenna, I'm still contemplating whether or not I'm going to read City of Ashes (The Mortal Instruments, #2) by Cassandra Clare . I didn't exactly like it that much but I sort of enjoyed reading it. Does it not get better than its predecessor?

Hannah | 119 comments Out of Sight, Out of Time (Gallagher Girls, #5) by Ally Carter
i was so excited but it wasn't what i was expecting it was sorta uncool... Angel (Maximum Ride, #7) by James Patterson i read like all of them in one week then i came to this one and i was just like NOOOOOO......

message 11: by Katrina (new)

Katrina Welsh (katrinawelsh_) I kind of loved Out of Sight, Out of Time (Gallagher Girls, #5) by Ally Carter . I think it was the best in the series...

I loved that book too. It had me on edge the whole time!!! Besides that the first one is my fav :)

message 14: by Samantha (last edited Aug 18, 2012 01:36PM) (new)

Samantha | 146 comments I'm about 70% through Spiral (Tunnels, #5) by Roderick Gordon , and I'm already disappointed. I read the four books before it and they were pretty good, but they gradually got worse and worse. Spiral is good but it's so different than what the series was about originally and not what I was expecting. I hope the ending changes my mind.

I don't think it got better at all. But i'm not really into sibling incest sooo... :P

message 16: by Katrina (last edited Aug 19, 2012 12:53AM) (new)

Katrina Welsh (katrinawelsh_) Oh gosh. Did that icky romance went on in the other books? I kept hoping, for the love of God, that it was all a joke. That Jace was just going along everything Valentine was spouting off his mouth. Ick. Not cool.

message 17: by Beatrice (new)

Beatrice (beatricemasalunga) I was disappointed with Mockingjay (The Hunger Games, #3) by Suzanne Collins I was expecting too much on the ending because the first two books were actually good and then it turned out that the last book disappointed me of what happened to the characters. (view spoiler)

I thought it was odd how the author was trying to make it seem like incest was okay and cool if you were really ~in love~ but (view spoiler)

message 19: by Katrina (new)

Katrina Welsh (katrinawelsh_) Oh, I hoped it was just a misunderstanding. But she did it again in CoG? Wasn't once enough already? Did she know they were related?

Wait. Have you read Forbidden by Tabitha Suzuma . That's basically incest but I thought that the author did it really well. I actually really like the book. You should try it our if you're open to that type of thing.

message 21: by Lady (new)

Lady | 10 comments I guess you're right Valencia. But I think the reason I didn't like the book was Clary. I thought she was lame and whiny.

And thanks for the rec Katrina! I actually kind've like reading about creepy odd stuff like serial killers/pedos/ect so I think I might give it a try.. after I read my long TBR shelf lol.

message 22: by Cassandra (new)

Cassandra Giovanni | 90 comments Well, I was really looking forward to Sovereign Hope...and there are some parts that are good, but other parts, most of them, are whiny, drawn out inner narrative...the 3rd person point of view also doesn't flow the way I would have liked to see, but I respect any author who tries.
The video for this book is totally amazing though!!!

message 23: by Carol (new)

Carol (carolmt) I was really disappointed with Matched (Matched, #1) by Ally Condie ! Everyone says it's amazing, but for me it was just... no

message 24: by Reyes (new)

Reyes | 19 comments Narc by Crissa-Jean Chappell this book was really disapointing I really thought that it was going to be better than what I got out of it!! Yeah it had some good/funny parts but overall it still was a disapointment!

Becca (beccatheawesomeone) | 146 comments Mockingjay was probably the most disappointing book ever.

I agree!!! I was expecting an amazing last book and was disappointed.

Sammy (sammyyreads) | 7 comments Carol wrote: "I was really disappointed with Matched (Matched, #1) by Ally Condie! Everyone says it's amazing, but for me it was just... no" i was thinking about reading that. whats bad about it, the writing? Im kind of unsure if i should read it or not. :/

message 28: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammyyreads) | 7 comments Nevermore..The 8th book of maximum ride. The ending was good but the whole book itself was no where good enough for it to tie up the many loose ends and it was just so disappointing. :(

message 29: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 146 comments I agree with Carol. Matched wasn't worth all the hype. It was a typical romance and nowhere near as good as other dystopia books that are out right now. And there was hardly any romance anyway. It was a lot of moaning and complaining and trying to decide. Idk. Just not the best.

message 30: by Jenelle (new)

Jenelle Eragon (Inheritance, #1) by Christopher Paolini was SO hyped up, and then just didn't match the hype at all... am I the only one? Now that the entire series is out, I feel I ought to give it a second chance to find out how it all ends... but I just can't muster up the motivation.

message 31: by Katrina (new)

Katrina Welsh (katrinawelsh_) Jenelle, I saw the movie before I read the book so I was actually pretty glad with the book. I still haven't gotten around to reading the second one (the thickness intimidates me)

message 32: by Amanda (new)

Amanda | 70 comments I think the hype comes from the fact that the author was only 15 when he wrote Eragon, but I haven't actually read Eragon to really know if I like it or not. I started to read one of the other books in the series because my friend had it on a road trip we took. That one caught my interest.

I dont get it when people say they didn't like City of bones, i know it's their opinion, but i LOVED this book i read all the books that came out already...cant wait for city of heavenly fire!!

message 34: by Katrina (new)

Katrina Welsh (katrinawelsh_) I didn't exactly love City of Bones but I think I'll still read the next installment. Maybe it'll get better?

message 35: by Kirstin (new)

Kirstin | 57 comments Nevermore had a good plot but the writing was lacking. It was as of through the whole book the author just stated what was happening and there was no real emotion or excitement.

message 36: by Reyes (new)

Reyes | 19 comments Narc by Crissa-Jean Chappell this was so dissapointing

message 37: by Beatrice (new)

Beatrice Blakeney (beatriceblakeney) | 2 comments So many! Although this may be because I am a rather critical person. I'll narrow it down:

1. Eragon. Just...don't even get me started. So unoriginal. What everyone sees in these books, I will never know.

2. City of Bones. I just couldn't get into that one. I felt like Clary was a flat protagoniost and Jace was just a cliche hot, brooding bad-boy.

3. Matched. It was just so boring. Hardly any action, flat characters, kind of cheesy writing.

Kelly | 2 comments Most recently would have to be Divergent, I know almost every single person on this site LOVED that book but it seemed so incredibly implausible and one-dimensional to me, and kind of like it was riding The Hunger Games dysopian coattails.

A few others are;

City of Bones

Fifty Shades of Grey (I wasn't necessarily expecting this to be good, but definitely a controversial read. It wasn't, I've read more controversial sexual themes in books more times than I can count.)

Immortal Beloved

Dead to the World (Harris ruined Eric for me in this one)

I mean it was good. But I thikn I just had such high expectations for it because of the wait after the second one. MoA was unnecessarily long. They went on sooo many mini-quests. I was hugely disappointed by Piper. She didn't seem to do anything impressive and her charmspeak never worked on anyone. But I think I am most disappointed by the reunion between Percy/Annabeth and the Greek/Roman camps. It was cut off too soon.

I was disappointed because this series had a great potential to grow and mature as books but they didn't. They still stayed in an elementary school perspective. Check my full review for more reasons.

message 46: by Brady (new)

Brady Fish (fishela1) Probably Kierkegaard's books. I read Either/Or when I was 19 and thought it was the greatest piece of philosophical writing I had ever been exposed to. Then I read the rest of his books and thought, "meh."

I was dissapointed in Finale (Hush, Hush, #4) by Becca Fitzpatrick I can't even begin to go into why I was so dissapointed. It's mostly the last couple chapters that I have a problem with.

message 48: by Marybeth (new)

Marybeth (narutofan14) I did not like the ending of the last divergent series and i also did not like the last book of the delirium series.
