Thought I'd suggest The Secret River as its one of my favourite books and is about a man In the 1800's who is convicted of a petty crime in England and deported to Australia, so should work for Mayflower Day? I can't use it as I've read it before and I'm not a repeat-reader but I would definitely recommend it!
For #6, I have checked listopia's archaeology lists and have found books about forensic anthrologists (study of dead bodies) and an antique dealer (an archaeology mystery series). Would you accept these variants or does it have to be a dig in the ground archaeologist?

I was wondering what the links for the golf books are Laurie. The links given on the task don't seem to be working.I am also seeking approval of option 3 gawdiness.

Great task! I've had a copy of Mayflower: A Story of Courage, Community, and War on my shelves since it came out, and I swore I was going to get to it this challenge. So that one's taken care of. Now for other possibilities.Would this work for bright colors?
And/or would these work for a circle on the cover?
(there's a crystal ball in the center of the dragon
-Would you consider the top of the key a circle, or does it have to be a perfect circle?

Just wanted to double check...option 3
and option 5
LOL... after seeing both the covers together I'm pretty sure either one would work for either option! =)
Thanks Laurie!
Option 3:
Option 5:

Would
work? You said no letters or numbers... That looks like some sort of alien symbol... ?Option 6:
FYI... Rick Riordan, author of the Percy Jackson series, has an Egyptian mythology series, the Kane Chronicles, that's pretty good. It's a COMPLETED trilogy, so no waiting for books, either! They are all full of Egyptian gods and magic.

Yes to all except
- that looks more like ovals instead of circles.
Well, from that angle, the cake certainly looks like an oval, but I'm assuming it's a round cake.... *shrugs*

Chose from two (2) different options and read one book for each of your choices. Books can be either fiction or nonfiction.
1. Mayflower Day (September 16): Read book about the Mayflower or another ship (such as the Susan Constant, Godspeed, or Discovery) during the same time period (the 1600s) that helped transport the New World settlers from the ‘Old’ world to the ‘New’; or, read a book about someone immigrating from a country that is separated by an ocean from the country they are relocating to (so the Carribean to America, Europe to Australia, or India to America would work but Canada to the US or Europe to Asia would not). Examples: Mayflower: A Story of Courage, Community, and War, Life of Pi, Netherland, The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao, Interpreter of Maladies
2. Miniature Golf Day (September 21): Read a book about golf (miniature or otherwise). Golf can be the major focus of the book or can be in the background. Ex: Welcome to Last Chance and other books in this series include a mini-golf course is a part of the story. These lists might help, too: Great Golf Books, Best Golf Novels
3. Wear Something Gaudy Day (October 17): Read a book with a brightly colored cover. There should be at least 3 bright, brilliant colors on the cover and bright colors should make up a majority of the cover.
Ex:
4. TV Talk Show Host Day (October 23): Read a book written by or about a talk show host. Main characters that are fictional talk show hosts work, too. List of talk show hosts
5. Look for Circles Day (November 2): Read a book with a circular object (not letters or numbers) on the cover. The whole circle doesn't have to be depicted, but enough so that the circle can be seen. Required: Include the cover and state the circular object when you post.
6. King Tut Day (November 4): Read a book about a King, an Egyptian, or a mummy; or a book set in Egypt; or a book about an Egyptologist, archeologist, or anthropologist. Ex: Crocodile on the Sandbank, The Mummy, Submerged: Adventures of America's Most Elite Underwater Archeology Team, Henry VIII: The King and His Court
Required: Please state the options you chose when you post. If using cover options, you must include the cover in your post. If your choices isn’t obvious, please explain the connection.
