B.M. M. Polier I'm switching to thestorygraph.com for my book tracking, as it is independently owned and not owned by Amazon. Goodreads is clunky and hasn't changed since its inception. I'm tired of corporate-owned awful, I'm going to a better platform.

B.M. M. Polier So for my goodreads challenge next year I decided on quality not quantity. Instead of 50+ books I am going for 10. Two of those 10 are going to be 1) The Holy Bible which I want to read cover to cover again this time in a year, and 2) The Tale of Genji which is bible sized itself and I have only read to page 800 of the 3000? pages in it. So those are the two books I am going to finish next year. 8 others for fillers when I can't read the other to any more.

I agree. The series definitely gets better as it progresses, but Robin Hobb has a penchant for making her characters suffer miserably. That never changes in any of her books.

Laura So I finally read Royal Assassin. For some strange reason I enjoyed it way more then the first one. I think it may have been because the first one was so depressing, always something bad happening to Fitz. He still got a full share of nastiness in this book, but there was also good things happening to him, not much, but I guess enough.

Too true, it really doesn't.

B.M. M. Polier Now that I think about it, I didn't know about it either. I didn't know it was there until the second book had hit first printing. I think it is actually called the TAWNY MAN trilogy and not the Golden Fool. Either way, I'm sure you will find it. This all is making me want to read both series over again, it has been such a long time. If only I didn't have 50+ books waiting on my TO BE READ shelf...

Robin Hobb's Assassin series is one of my favorites. Most people find it a little slow, but I just loved it and devoured it. Don't forget to read the Golden Fool Series afterwards as it completes the story and enjoy!

Laura I finished Shadows Edge, I enjoyed it more then the first, but it had more to do with the story elements then anything else. The problems with the first book are still strong in the second, the writing is slightly better, and I didn't find this one as confusing in areas like the first one. If I hadn't received the box set of this series I probably wouldn't have bothered. I'll race through the third hopefully (sometimes it's a bad thing to be a completion-ist) and then start Robin Hobb's Assassin series. :D
