Currently reading various diaries of 10th century ladies at the Japanese Court in Kyoto. Obscure? Boring? Different World? Not a bit of it: their voices sing out as fresh, modern, and recognisable as Facebook updates. Strongly recommend (As I Crossed the Bridge of Dreams, The Pillow Book of Sei Shonagon, The Diary of Lady Murasaki).
Congrats to Maurine, Anfal, Christine, Ian, and Sarah-Jayne. I'm just sending your free books off now. Hope you enjoy. I'd strongly advise you to read them tucked up on the sofa/in front of a fire/in bed. But remember to keep the lights on...
