Ah I see. Yeah I like Ortiz' work, and I like that book, but I have to take in doses. Interesting idea, especially since he is not writing for and about his own people. Where Ortiz and I differ is that I try avoid any political implications in my poems. I figure those things evolve naturally out of text. Have you read Shapeshift by Sherwin Bitsui?

It was just a coincidence. :) I had wanted to read your collection, after Orlando recommended it at AWP when I bought Bone Light. Meanwhile, a colleague gifted me with Wendy Rose and Simon Ortiz in the spring. Again, I did not have time to read their books until now. The realization though a few days ago made me *want* to read the entire series. That will take time.

Assuming you read Ortiz' from Sand Creek? What did you think of it? I've read it twice now, and for me it gets a little too didactic for me at the end. There are so many stunning moments too that when I come t lines like "a train /that carries dreams and freedom away" are so disappointing."

I think I'm increasingly at odds with this Goodreads ranking system...
