I'm getting READY to do a giveaway with Goodreads. I say getting ready because I tried to set it up about twelve times already and I keep getting an error message. So apparently I'm even more inept than I thought. But I'll keep at it and let you know. Hopefully soon.
Started "Bird By Bird" today, after a recommendation from another author. I'm sure it's blasphemy to say I don't like it but so far - 30 pages in and loooooong into (24 or so pages, so just over 50 pages total) I haven't read anything I didn't get from author's groups or blog posts or already learned myself (except her not very funny bio) over the last three years.Hoping it improves. Not saying it isn't a quality read, just saying it's not what I expected from the recommendation I got. That said, if I had read this three years ago when I was just starting out, I might have found it more insightful. As it stands I'm seeing it validate a lot of things I've already concluded, learned and taught to others, which is satisfying.
I know, I know, this makes me sound arrogant. I'll post a fair review when I'm done, I promise. It might be a tremendous help to new authors; I'm not saying it's not.
If you loved it, let me know why. I'd be happy to hear it. Honest.
Also started "Wool" by Hugh Howey. It has a "grabber" of an opening, something I try to utilize but not every writer does, and it sure makes a difference. Ten words in, I'm dying to know what happens. That's a big deal and encourages me to go ahead and make the changes in my latest book I've been considering making.Hoping this one is as good as advertised.
BTW, you guys give away a LOT of spoilers in your reviews! I'll have to watch that!
