A half-century ago, when baby boomers reached their teens, there began a giant drop in traditional church attendance. At the same time, there came to grow a spiritual hunger as manifested in ecological awareness, human rights and social responsibility.

There is thus today a huge gap, addressed in part by the quick fix of religious fundamentalism as it historically has done to address both Homo sapiens’ fear of death and slavery to fertility. For, however, a 21st-century person, trying to progress along any set of values based on principles, the guidance can feel vague.

Hence, the story of our heroine in The SECOND.
