Working on some special bonus content which I'll announce as soon as it's ready. Stay tuned if your interested...
Been busy with a variety of projects as I've gotten over some health issues the last few years. Just really catching up. Working on the next book in The Cursed Mage Case Files to add to The Changeling Incident: A Gaslamp Epic Fantasy Series, Book 0.1 of The Cursed Mage Case Files and The Order of the Dark Rose as well as some first books in series and short stories. One project I've been able to handle the last couple of years is a short fiction series, Doors of Fantasy, namely The Black Bag, Curses Dark and Foul: A Fantasy Short Reads Anthology, and What Lies Beyond: A Fantasy Short Reads Anthology. More news tot follow soon.
There are at least two other drafts of books waiting to be edited. One my editor has seen already is entitled, All Things Remembered. Since it will require a lot of development with the world with elements of LitRPG in it, this book was shelved while The Cursed Mage Case Files and Black Glove series were developed for publication. Over the next several months, my hope is to pull this one out and complete development and revision of the book so it can go back to my editor. Perhaps it might make it to publication this year. If not, there's always 2022. Want to find out more about my upcoming projects? Join me on my website and become a follower - invite some friends along and have some conversations.
I love reading and I'm constantly at it. With e-readers, I can have a lot of books available to read at any moment. I only occasionally buy a print book these days because we just don't have the shelf space. As a result, I've got quite a lot in my Kindle app. I have so many that I'm probably in the process of reading several dozen books at the moment. I think I need to focus on just one book to finish, but I'm also researching for various reasons so this doesn't help. Anyone else have this problem? I know my daughter does, so the proverbial apple doesn't fall far from the tree!
Another fantasy series I've enjoyed is that of Alloy of Law by Branden Sanderson. His work is always excellent. One aspect of his career that has always amazed me is his attention to detail which was very evident when he wrote the closing books of the Wheel of Time series started by Robert Jordan who passed away before it was finished. It's a very detailed series, but I've always said that Sanderson wrote like Jordan better than Jordan - it was hard to tell the difference except in subtle ways. That's attention to detail and I'm sure it was not an easy feat. Hat tip to Sanderson for finishing that series in a very satisfying way and those books may be some of his best writing.
My first book published was The Bow of Destiny which has sold in the thousands. In late 2016 this book swam it's way near the top of some large, competitive charts - a small, single fish in deep water. The series only got better with my experience, but this book was the beginning. It even landed an audio contract for the entire series with Podium Audio which was astounding to me since it was my first book. Amazingly, the series has garnered some awards along the way as well. But an audio contract far exceeded my expectations. Audio was an interesting project to be a part of and revealed a side of publishing about which I knew nothing. The end product blew me away with the quality, literally stunning me to jaw-dropped silence and child-like excitement as I first listened to it. I've loved the relationship I found with Podium and hope to work with them further on more projects.
There is another book in my list to be published and it's turn is soon coming. For now, it's just Black Glove and was originally developed about the same time as my Cursed Mage Case Files ideas. This first book is very near completion of it's revision and ready to be evaluated by my editor. It's possible, this book will find its way to market this Fall. I think readers will find it a fun read that begins another fantasy series. If you want to know more about some of my series-length projects, visit my website.
I mention my editor frequently. She's been extremely helpful to me in so many ways. JB is very experienced as a former Random House editor and has provided me expert opinions that have guided my writing. I've learned what she expects and I listen carefully to her feedback. She's been an incredible partner in my writing and I would not have progressed as an author without her valuable assistance.
Book three of The Cursed Mage Case Files will soon be under revision with the goal of putting it in my editor's hands for April. That schedule will put this book in the hopper for publication, possibly during the summer. Having these drafts ready and waiting makes it possible to turn them around faster.
One of my goals is to get my books in print. Two are already there and I'm about round out The Bow of Hart Saga with The White Arrow in print (it's already in e-book and audio, the latter thanks to Podium Audio). I'd like to setup some sort of bundle for those three books but that's side-project. The White Arrow
Additionally, The Order of the Dark Rose will be out in print soon. The intention was to release it in print and ebook at the same time but illness held up the print. Next two books should have print and e-book available at the same time.
The Order of the Dark Rose
Taking breaks, I'm watching some documentaries about a number of topics including archeology and history. I've enjoyed reviewing various points of ancient history of late with some online viewing among other resources. Gives me time to rest and generate writing ideas even for ongoing writing.
The year is still young and I'm off to a solid start. My editor is available to edit my books for several months so I'm prepping three drafts. First is The Unseen Hand (Cursed Mage Case Files, Book 2) which has artwork pending. I hope to have that released during Spring. In the meantime, here's something about the recently released title, The Order of the Dark Rose, which is the first book of the series:
Over the last several years, I've enjoyed reading a number of different fantasy books. One of those authors is Brian McClellan's books about powder mages, one of the more recent being:
All of his books are well-constructed with characters struggling with their present and past.
Just settled into work on my next book. Actually, it's written but I'm getting to the rounds of editing. Book 2 of The Cursed Mage Case Files nearing while book 3 is on the horizon. Book 1 is The Order of the Dark Rose, already out but in need of a print release soon. The series is rounding into shape with each day.
