VIGILARE - book #1 in my supernatural adventure trilogy is FREE today (March 6th) on Amazon Kindle. http://www.amazon.com/Vigilare-ebook/...
"Vigilare walks the line between a thriller and a supernatural adventure while safely anchored in a scientific discourse around blood that James put together so well that it's reminiscent of a Douglas Preston or Michael Crichton novel. With action, romance, a strong female hero and a likable group of characters, Vigilare reads like a good action movie." -Gabino Iglesias

Hi Johnny! I will check out your tunes. I have to say this is the first time I have combined my songwriting with writing a book. I've heard of it a few times where author/singer/songwriter types will combine an album with a small book of short stories, poems, and stories behind the music. However, as far as a music soundtrack to a mainstream fiction, I think mine may be one of a kind currently. It only seemed natural to me.
This particlar book is semi-autobiographical about my experiences with an abusive childhood. Music and writing were my outlets. When I started writing the book, it was creative therapy (cheap therapy:)) in action for me. I went into this creative phase where all I wanted to do was write. Sometimes it was chapters in the book, other times it was songs. Therefore, it's my belief that the two were conceived from the same vein, so to speak, and that's why it seemed only natural to release them together. It was just there. Parts of the book and the characters inspired the songs, while some of the songs inspired the book and the characters. For instance, I wrote the track Jeremiah Johnson in 2008. It left such a massive impression on me that subconsciously, he became my lead male character in the book in 2010. They really go hand in hand, representative of my creative box at that time.
I'm writing my next novel, a mystery/suspense, Vigilare...and it will not have a soundtrack because it would be out of place for the context and my musical style. As for your original question, the concept of combining the two works great, when it's meant to be. I think if it comes natural to you and feels "right," then it's golden. But to try and make one fit into the other, I think that pulls away from the originality.
Looking forward to checking out your music! Cheers!
Hi Brooklyn, Like yourself I am a working musician and an author. I noticed that you do combo book signings with your music. How does that work out. I have my original songs on Reverbnation, an excellent independent music site, I'm listed as {Jersey] Johnny Flora. Does the concept of combining the two art forms work well.....Thanks Johnny
