Susan EXCERPT FROM BOOK 2, SCARLET BUTTERFLY, AS PROMISED.
FOR ALL YOU LIAM FANS. REMEMBER, DEAD DOESN'T ALWAYS MEAN DEAD.
(Keep in mind that the book is still being written. So this is a rough draft excerpt.)

“Liam. Where am I?”
Brushing a hair away from my face he smiled. “Hey there my beautiful angel. You had me worried there a minute.”
He grabbed my hand and helped me up.“I’m not dreaming am I?” I looked around at a rocky landscape with a thin veil of grey fog hovering above it.
“Its called the in-between. The place where unsettled souls go until they’re ready to accept death.”
“Why are you here?”
He held my face in his hands and kissed me. “Because you are.” he said. “Even in death, we’re still connected. The moment you hit the in-between, I felt our bond.”
My heart broke a little bit more. The last time I’d felt the bond with Liam, was the night he died. I pulled him close and laid my forehead on his chest. “I miss you so much Liam, it hurts. Most days the pain is too much to bear.”
He brushed his hand down the back of my head. “Angel, I need you to listen to me. You can’t come back here. This can be a dangerous place. And I won’t always be able to meet you. Things are a bit chaotic up stairs right now.”
“But…I didn’t purposely come here.” I looked around. “I don’t exactly know how I even got here.”
Liam’s brow furrowed. “So you didn’t seek the in-between out to see me again?”
I shook my head. “No. Why?”
“Because in order to visit the in-between you have to summon it.”
“Summon it? Wait a minute, I’m confused.” I held my temples. “The last time I was here you said I was dreaming.”
He put a hand to my face and slid his thumb across my cheek. “I wanted you to think it was. I didn’t want you to come back here.”
He dropped his hand as I stepped away hurt. “Are you saying you don’t want to see me again?”
“You don’t belong here, Gracie. You are among the living, so go live.”
Liam’s words stung. I was completely crushed. “You can’t mean that.”
He stepped forward. “I mean every word of it. Don’t come back here. You need to forget me, Gracie. You have a life with Kellan now, he loves you.”
I couldn’t breath. “No. My life is with you. I love you!”
“You love the memory of me, Gracie!” He stated harshly. “You can’t physically love me anymore - I’m dead.”
I threw my hands over my ears. “No. Stop saying that! No, no, no, no! You don’t mean what you’re saying. You love me and you know it!”
His shoulders slumped. “Of course I love you.” He said softly. “I will always love you. But I’m dead, I can’t love another. You were my first and my last. Now go home, Gracie, and don’t come back. Because I won’t come for you next time.” On the verge of breaking down, I closed my eyes and kept telling myself to hold it together, don’t loose it, don’t dare let him see you cry. “You said you would always be there for me when I needed you. You promised to love me forever-”
“Nothing lasts forever. Forever doesn’t exist.” Liam’s voice was a distant whisper. “The sooner you accept that, the better off you‘ll be.”

Susan AS PROMISED FOR ALL OF THOSE WHO LIKED AND SHARED MY POST TODAY. HERE IS A GLIMPSE INSIDE OF BOOK 2 OF THE BLOODBORN SERIES - SCARLET BUTTERFLY.
ENJOY! AND KEEP IN MIND THIS HAS NOT BEEN EDITED YET. THIS IS A FIRST DRAFT!

With a worried look on his face, Kellan stood up abandoning his breakfast on the table, and snatched his car keys off the island and stormed off towards the door.
“Where are you going?” I asked, exasperated.
Hand on the door knob he turned around. “I have accepted that the world is not what I once thought it was. I have bent over backwards to keep your secret, lying through my teeth to everyone who isn’t in our little circle of trust. Do you understand how heart wrenching it was to hear my mother cry when I told her we wouldn’t be home for the holidays?” He asked angrily. “I will do just about anything for you, Gracie. Including going to the ends of the earth for you if you needed me to. But I will not sit here and watch you wither away before my eyes.” He shook his head with irritation. “I just…I just can’t.” He said as he whipped open the door and left.
With my new found supernatural speed I retreated up the stairs to my room. Slamming the door a little too hard, I caused stress fractures to spider web across the surface. I huffed at the evidence of still not knowing my own strength and slid down the side of my bed to the floor. It was becoming more apparent everyday that I wouldn’t be able to hide my cravings for human blood much longer, and being around Kellan and his enticing, and unusual scent, made the cravings that much more painful and hard to resist. After getting through the first couple of full moons on nothing but pigs blood, I assumed the cravings for human blood would eventually subside - I was wrong.
My first full moon was excruciatingly painful. I spent the night at the Kingston house strapped to a gurney while Preston and Damen squirted small amounts of animal blood from a syringe into my mouth every twenty minutes throughout the night. The animal blood smelled and tasted horrible - somewhat like rancid meat. How Damen has lived on it for so long was beyond my comprehension. Until one day, I finally understood why.
One afternoon while Kellan was at work, I ventured out for a walk to clear my head. It had been weeks since I had been aloud to go out of the house alone. The cold crisp air felt wonderful as it whispered across my skin. I almost felt invigorated. That is till the moment I stepped into town. The sound of swooshing blood flowing through rapidly beating hearts filled my ears, and the smell of heavenly scents filled my nose. I could feel the sting in my eyes as they changed color, and my fangs elongating.
My mouth watered as my eyes roamed over the people hustling down Main Street. I smelled the air like a predator searching for its prey and zeroed in on a woman who looked to be in her early thirties with a dark pixie hair cut. She was tall and slender with amber colored eyes, and her blood smelled sweet and rich. I licked my lips as everything tinted red, like wearing rose colored glasses. I stepped off the curb and headed in her direction, unable to break the pull the scent of her blood had on me.
The woman was approaching an alley way, the exact same one I had first seen Joseph feeding in. I picked up my pace till I was nearly right on her, I could almost taste her, my fangs tingled with anticipation. I reached out to grab her, my finger tips grazing along the shoulder of her wool winter coat, when suddenly I was broadsided with the force of a speeding bus. Furious and hungry, I looked up from the stinky bags of garbage I had landed on in the alley, into the eyes of one very big pissed off vampire - Damen.
His nostrils flared and his hands were opening and closing into fists as he fought to calm himself. “What…were you thinking…coming into town…in your condition?” He managed to hiss through gritted teeth. The red tint evaporated and my fangs slightly receded when I realized what Damen had just saved me from doing. “You would have killed her!” He yelled.
The pain of denying myself what I craved began to wrack my body as I tried to sit up. Every muscle, bone, and joint hurt or ached in someway, and my head felt like it was going to explode.
“Were you following me?” I asked as I grabbed my throbbing head.
“Yes.” He said bluntly. “Good damn thing to.”
Since that day, I haven’t stirred up enough guts to go out walking by myself again. The realization that I could have killed someone’s daughter, sister, or mother, terrified me.

Don't forget if you haven't read book 1 yet - Bloodborn, now would be the time to pick up a copy.

Bloodborn is a coming of age novel full of heartbreak, shocking revelations, and an eternal love that can never be broken. Not to mention a surprising ending that will have you shocked and awed.

Amazon reviews:

GREAT FIRST BOOK!
When I first started Bloodborn by Susan Stielow, I was on the fence. It was slow paced and not a lot of action was going on. It took me awhile to plow through the first half. Once I reached the second half of the book, though? HOLY. SMOKES. It ended up being edgy, mysterious, and full of paranormal goodness. I enjoyed the story, I loved the paranormal aspect…and that ending?! I wish I had the next one in my hands right now.
Overall, I enjoyed Bloodborn. I thought it was a great first book, especially for an Indie author! Bloodborn is a book that I would recommend for people of all ages. Paranormal fans will enjoy this one…but don’t kick yourself to the sidelines just yet contemporary fans! I felt that Bloodborn had a sweet contemporary feel mixed into it that everyone should enjoy. It was just a good read! Go buy this one today! - N. Koehler - Ya Reads

YA's and adults will like this one equally well, it has a little of everything in it. Mystery, romance, plenty of action and some real shockers at the end. Gracie is more than just a high school grad searching for her dad, there are secrets to her family and herself that are gradually revealed. A very enjoyable read and I can't wait for the next in the series. - Rose Montague

A GREAT BOOK!!
Susan Stielow has created a great world full of wonderful characters! You'll end the book begging for more! I'm anxiously awaiting book 2! - Jenny Myers

A GOOD READ.
Gracie Ambrose is a sympathetic and appealing heroine; the psychology of a young woman's coming of age, paired the double whammy of the emotional upheaval of leaving home and consequently discovering that much of what she believes to be the truth is a fabrication, is believable and handled well. That the truth involves supernatural beings of both light and darkness is an interesting development, and that Gracie's love interests form a triangle bridging the human and supernatural worlds, are both elements in the best traditions of the "Dark Shadows" television shows and other such supernatural melodramas.
I look forward to the continuation of this series, and to seeing the continued growth and development of Gracie Ambrose as a character, and of Susan Stielow as an author. - Joshua E. Harrell

SURPRISING!
Early on it struck me as a fairly stereotypical plot, but the mystery quickly deepened into something that drove me to read further until it came to a mind blowing conclusion with many questions, new and old, left for the next book. The portrayal of the relationship between the lead characters was really well done. Initially, their interaction bothered me, but as the story progressed it not only made sense but struck me as amazingly spot on. This revelation retrospectively enhanced my appreciation for the beginning of the novel. I look forward to seeing the author's writing style grow as she continues this series and I can't wait to see what happens next. - Daniel Kolesar

I received this book in the mail and started reading and could not put it down til i finished. What a wonderful new author we have. - Donna Ogletree

Susan Okay guys, so I decided to post a little snippet of BLOODBORN to tempt you with. This is an UNEDITED snippet. Hope you enjoy!

Gretchen’s sudden scream drew my eyes to her and Kellan, as they stood frozen with fear staring into the red eyes of a V’moule. I fumbled for the blade strapped to my leg, and tugged it out of the sheath, as I clumsily stepped in front of Kellan. The blade was heavier than it looked, and the gems incrusted into the handle were cutting into my palm. My heart thrashed around in my chest as I waved the blade back and forth at the V’moule. I steadied my stance the best I could, and tried to remember the areas Liam told me to aim for.
“Leave us alone…or I’ll kill you!” I shouted with scared conviction.
Kellan’s arm wrapped around my waist and tugged. “I don’t know what the hell that thing is, Gracie, but I think you just pissed it off.” Kellan said, his voice shaking. “We need to get out of here. Those things are everywhere.”
“It’s not a thing. It’s called a V’moule, and this blade can kill it. Kellan, take Gretchen and run.”
With me somewhat distracted, the V’moule took the opportunity and lunged. Without a second thought, I swung the blade, taking off his arm from elbow down. He didn’t even flinch, he just stared at me, as I stood there shaking. If it hadn’t been for the blood red eyes, you would have mistaken him for a light haired thirty year old man. His face suddenly contorted as a growl emanated from behind his lips. He took a step forward as I braced myself, then he abruptly fell to the ground limply, his head rolling off his shoulders. Michael stood behind him holding the blade that was the twin to mine, and covered in what I realized was black blood.
