Gabriel's Friend Comments

If I read one more book where the female protagonist bites her own lip until it bleeds, I think I'll scream! Has anyone out there actually ever gnawed at their own flesh like a vampire? What a ridiculous notion! And why, oh why is this behaviour reserved only for the female characters? I have never read about a male behaving in this bizarre manner. Thoughts?
