Hey, Sonia! I totally understand. I would recommend one of 3 books:

Held, which is my best seller and in my opinion my best book to date. It's about a young wife and new mother who is abducted from a mall parking lot by a serial killer and held in his basement for months, forced to watch as he murders a string of women. Or

Twisted, which is a book of short stories. There's a wide variety of stories in this one, and each would be a quick read for whenever you can grab a few minutes. Or

Shiners, a novella about 2 lifelong friends and moonshiners on the last night of the season and what happens to them when greed rears its ugly head. There are some historical aspects as the men in the story stumble upon the lost Confederate gold. So maybe you'd prefer to read that one.

Whichever one you choose, I certainly hope you like it. And good luck on the move and remodel. I saw the pictures of your house and it is adorable! I really love the trim and the pocket doors. My master bedroom has double doors and I've always wished they were pocket doors.
:-)

Sonia Hey Kim,
I still have not read one of your books yet...apologies for that. Here's the problem: I'm not a huge fan of horror stories, in fact I normally avoid them like the plague (Stephen King is the exception to that rule) and I really want to love your writing. So can you suggest either your very best or maybe something with a contemporary or historical feel?
That being said please remember I am in the midst of a move/home remodel and many other things so actually reading it could take a while.
