Susan Liberty Unspeakable Things
Unspeakable Things by Jess Lourey is not an uplifting novel. It left me feeling sad and depressed throughout the 299 pages.
Cassie, the twelve-year-old main character, was forced to live in a dysfunctional home with a sexually abusive, mentally ill father and a subservient, unprotecting mother. Cassie’s only safety net is her teenage sister, who falls victim to the darkness surrounding her family.
When boys go missing in her small Minnesota town, Cassie takes it upon herself the figure out the mystery. Unfortunately, the conclusion of Unspeakable Things didn’t provide any levity to the novel and left me with unanswered questions. Four stars.
