“Still keeping loyalty to the bastard who deserted you?” he asked, contempt dripping his voice.
“Go to hell,” she snapped, hurt by the comment because many people believed it, and it was so unfair.
He made a derisive snort. “Women can be so fucking blind.”
It was the last straw. “How dare you?” Julia exploded, giving full rein to her bottled-up anger. “You—”
“Be careful of what you say next, sweetheart,” he warned, his gaze narrowing.
“I’m not your sweetheart,” she seethed. “And I’m not afraid of you don Domenico.”

“In my family, cooking and serving a meal always was, and still is, quintessential. The most important question you’d hear at our house is either ‘Are you hungry?’ or ‘Have you eaten?’ presuming that as long as you were not hungry, everything else was secondary. A good meal, according to our family philosophy, could defeat any drama, any worry, any existential crisis. Everything could be resolved once you’d shared a meal with your family or friends.” -Make Me an Omelette”

“Whenever my mother tells me she had a dream seeing my grandmother, or my grandfather, my grandmother’s sister, my father, or my nanny, then recounts in detail what they talked about, I don’t think that she’s out of her mind. I only become slightly more cautious. Sometimes I’m even angry, at them, for appearing in our dreams, and only just checking on us, not saying anything expectedly wise, not telling us the stories from their otherworldly experiences.”
