i’ve said this before but my favorite thing ever is a reference. i love a reference. and this book was FULLLLLL of references to past events in sadie and sams story. i am tempted to sit here and list them but i may get carpal tunnel from typing them all so i better not. i will mention though, that page 11 and the last page are basically identical. i was sobbing.

i felt so much love in this book that i don’t think i’ll ever be able to read a love story in the same way ever again. i have always thought that platonic love is more special than romantic love but this book took that thought and drilled it into my head and tattooed it onto every skin cell of my body. excuse my language, but fuck romance. i want whatever sam and sadie have.

i cried i laughed i blushed i slammed my head against the wall and all of the other verbs during this book. so emotional. wow. i intensely annotated every page of this book because they were all just so good and i had so many things to say

that concludes the review but here are some other things that were just insanely memorable to me and that i loved

THE GAME THEME. nothing pisses me off more than when every single book has a book theme. i swear to god every book i read the protagonist is like an author or they love reading. like be creative please. THE GAME THEME WAS EVERYTHING TO ME. LIKE IT WAS SO EXCITING AND FUN TO WATCH THEM MAKE THE GAMES. I WAS OBSESSED. ALL THE GAME THEMED METAPHORS ALWAYS HAD ME CONTEMPLATING EVERYTHING. BEST THEME EVER. OBSESSED. (and i don’t even play games)

also the gomoku lesbians part. i know they weren’t actually gomoku lesbians but as a gomoku lesbian, i MUST have an entire book written about the lives of emily and daedalus. i Need it. gabrielle zevin literally wrote that for me i am being so serious when i say i made a gomoku themed annotation earlier on in the book. when that came up i was running laps around my room i was so excited. that’s all. amazing book. ...more "
