What a literary character does in ten minutes might be a reflection of ten years’ experience.
A clear reflection of the author intention when writing the character of ye wenjie.
and similar to my own approach when trying to make art. it should be not only about what's within the borders of the frame, but about everything that's outside of it.
if you can acomplish this, then your intention is the more richer for it

“I ask of you your lives,” Elend said, voice echoing, “and your courage. I ask of you your faith, and your honor—your strength, and your compassion. For today, I lead you to die. “In the end, they will kill us,” Elend said, voice loud, ringing in the cavern. “But first, they shall fear us!”

“I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.”
