I once questioned a children's literature instructor back in 2007 at the University of Toledo on the inclusion of a graphic novel called Diary of a Wimpy Kid, asking why an English teacher should assign such a book to students when we are supposed to be advocating for literature rather than comprehension of illustrations and dialogue. The professor simply replied that the style of the book was to encourage reading for children who struggle with prose.

Reflecting back on this conversation, I honestly question why such students who struggle with written prose should be included in traditional school models when clearly there is a movement in the United States of America to broaden our approach to how a child can be educated in taxpayer funded school systems. I personally succeeded in both parochial and public school systems during my youth, clearly indebted to a traditional Finnish school mode that was embraced by American educators during the late 19th century, as the industrial revolution encouraged children of farmers to seek out a life of their own in cities and factories.

Taxpayer funded education became a necessity as parents were too busy earning their own respective incomes, rejecting pastoral educational models that many found too domineering by parents and matriarchal structures who simply were too involved in their children's lifes. Many American children now grow up in such American school models, and are raised to look forward to a summer break that many Easterners are still baffled by today.

Marketing studies may have already embraced different educational models as I simply question how students who are held back by classmates unwilling to challenge their own hearts and minds suffer from having to work for these now successful employers, while they hired wealth that most traditionalists simply acknowledge is unfair. If there is no justice in a world designed for struggling overachievers, then perhaps we as a humanity should demand historical fairness.
