"Already thinking about why I want to give up everything to pursue medicine, this book, so far, is really hitting the mark. I am always hesitant to hear a “white saviour” story, but her voice suggests humility, deep respect and research, and a blatant honesty facing the horror of her own racism towards Indigenous people. Excited to keep reading and learning. Wonder if it’ll make me cry on the subway again." Feb 13, 2026 09:32PM

J.R.R. Tolkien
“Deserves it! I daresay he does. Many that live deserve death. And some that die deserve life. Can you give it to them? Then do not be too eager to deal out death in judgement. For even the very wise cannot see all ends.”
J.R.R. Tolkien, The Fellowship of the Ring

Albert Einstein
“Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the universe.”
Albert Einstein

J.D. Salinger
“When you're dead, they really fix you up. I hope to hell when I do die somebody has sense enough to just dump me in the river or something. Anything except sticking me in a goddam cemetery. People coming and putting a bunch of flowers on your stomach on Sunday, and all that crap. Who wants flowers when you're dead? Nobody.”
J.D. Salinger, The Catcher in the Rye

Anthony Doerr
“When I lost my sight, Werner, people said I was brave. When my father left, people said I was brave. But it is not bravery; I have no choice. I wake up and live my life. Don't you do the same?”
Anthony Doerr, All the Light We Cannot See

J.R.R. Tolkien
“The world is indeed full of peril, and in it there are many dark places; but still there is much that is fair, and though in all lands love is now mingled with grief, it grows perhaps the greater.”
J.R.R. Tolkien, The Fellowship of the Ring
