Were I to fall in love, indeed, it would be a different thing! but I never have been in love; it is not my way, or my nature; and I do not think I ever shall.
This is honestly one of my favourite lines. I think it’s just so interesting and refreshing in a book published in 1815 to have your heroine declare she’s doesn’t think it’s in her nature to go around falling in love with people, despite the later plot of the book. I love Emma.

“A book is an interpretation," she says. "You want a place to be like it was in the book but it's not a place in a book it's just words. The place in your imagination is where you want to go and that place is imaginary. This is real.”
