Book cover for Birthday Girl
MacKenzie Russell
I know that she’s playing the card where Jordan is into ‘80s music and movies, so she /must be/ on the same mental level at 19 as this 30-something guy and was “born in the wrong decade” but this still feels kind of creepy and sleazy to me and I haven’t even gotten to anything really romantic or sexual.

Michel de Montaigne
“Man is certainly stark mad; he cannot make a worm, and yet he will be making gods by dozens.”
Montaigne, The Complete Essays

John Steinbeck
“All great and precious things are lonely.”
John Steinbeck, East of Eden

Voltaire
“I have wanted to kill myself a hundred times, but somehow I am still in love with life. This ridiculous weakness is perhaps one of our more stupid melancholy propensities, for is there anything more stupid than to be eager to go on carrying a burden which one would gladly throw away, to loathe one’s very being and yet to hold it fast, to fondle the snake that devours us until it has eaten our hearts away?”
Voltaire, Candide, or, Optimism

Bertrand Russell
“I do not pretend to be able to prove that there is no God. I equally cannot prove that Satan is a fiction. The Christian god may exist; so may the gods of Olympus, or of ancient Egypt, or of Babylon. But no one of these hypotheses is more probable than any other: they lie outside the region of even probable knowledge, and therefore there is no reason to consider any of them.”
Bertrand Russell , Why I Am Not a Christian and Other Essays on Religion and Related Subjects

Neil deGrasse Tyson
“My view is that if your philosophy is not unsettled daily then you are blind to all the universe has to offer.”
Neil deGrasse Tyson
