honestly, rolfe is the best part about this short story. he, like sam and celaena, was brought into a life he didn’t choose, and will do anything to get ahead. the first mention of orynth did bring tears to my eyes for our girl.

⊱ 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗲𝗿 - 4/5
our first mention of yrene! this sweet angel deserves all the good in life, i swear. celaena’s morality compass is definitely sitting in the “grey” position, but its like she can’t decide if she wants to be good or continue to live up to “adarlan’s assassin”.

⊱ 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗱𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘁 - 4/5
ansel is one of my favorite side characters in this series (probably ever) and i love the callback to her in later books! celaena’s time with the silent assassins in the red desert is short lived, but the connections she made (including kasida and hisli) through her time here are perfect.

lysandra, my girl!! ugh, i love her to pieces. she is a bit insufferable throughout the story, but sam is right. she just wants to be acknowledged. we also get our first glimpse at dorian… and jealous sam on the same page 🫶🏻 the love confession in the sewer is peak romance, honestly.
