“People often treat racism as a choice rather than a mental illness. It astounds me how someone can deny me a life filled with reading, publishing over 100 book titles, including many bestsellers, teaching at some of the world’s most prestigious universities, and so much more, solely based on the color of my skin. The racist asserts that everything I’ve accomplished is invalid, my words have no value, and my existence is worthless, regardless of my achievements, because my skin color is perceived as wrong. If this isn’t one of the most severe mental illnesses in the world, I don’t know what could be.”
