C.S. Lewis
“[N]early all that we call human history—money, poverty, ambition, war, prostitution, classes, empires, slavery—[is] the long terrible story of man trying to find something other than God which will make him happy.”
C.S. Lewis, Mere Christianity

Sarah I've loved this quote for many years, Andrew. I also wonder, though, if one couldn't just as easily phrase it: "Human history is the long terrible story of some humans trying to tell other humans what God says will make them happy."

Like, what does "other than God" mean anyway, if God is the Source of everything? How can there even be anything "other than" God?

(Just a riff off the quote. Welcome to my weirdo brain! 😂)
