Really great book by up and coming author Tommy Orange. The stories are fictional but they read as if they were real events.

Erica is on page 3 of 158 of The Broken Country: On Trauma, a Crime, and the Continuing Legacy of Vietnam (Association of Writers and Writing Programs Award for Creati)
Just started reading this book. After reading about historical trauma in a Native community in Canada by a member of the Cree community, I always wondered if there wasn't any books out there on the same subject matter within the Vietnamese community after the Vietnam war and all the atrocities committed by the US military. It took me awhile to dig around but I found a book to answer my question.

Erica is on page 196 of 352 of Up Ghost River: A Chief's Journey Through the Turbulent Waters of Native History
The author is a survivor of one of the worst residential schools in Canada, St.Anne's. He talks about being removed from his family and forced to attend this awful school where he experienced more trauma than any normal being. When he is an adult, his past comes back to haunt him and drives him to become an alcoholic. Not the easiest material to read subject wise but it is a compelling book.

Definitely one of the better books I have read on the subject of grief.
