July 12 1813 Russian, Prussian & Swedish general staffs met at Trachenberg to co-ordinate strategy. It was one of those rare occasions when leaders showed they had learned the lessons of history. Appreciating that Napoleon had outflanked enemy armies and then punished the centre they devised a strategy. Their 3 armies would not offer battle to Napoleon but withdraw and concentrate on his lieutenants... it would work.
