I’m on p.45 and already annoyed. The writing in this book series has progressively gotten worse…e.g., “released a chubby-cheeked baby with a mop of fiery red curls from a car seat in the back of her automobile”…. Why is the word ‘automobile’ used here? It isn’t something any of the characters would ever use! “Lowered the baby into a fabric and metal baby carrier”… why?! Unnecessary description

Still reading, but *spoiler alert* you expect me to believe that Joyce, who almost just lost her daughter in a fire, is going to stop talking to her daughter for MONTHS because Mel broke up with Joe? Doesn’t track with Joyce’s behavior, though honestly after five books of her shenanigans in the background, Mel is better off without Joyce butting in. And Mel leaving Joe after wishing she could see him again? Nah.

I am still seeing good things, but disagreeing with some. The “fat phobia” part focuses so much on fat hate, and never comments on how being heavier may cause other health problems (high blood sugar, blood pressure, cholesterol, etc) that are actually concerns. Things that people HAVE to focus on if it is a problem for them.
