The Ramseys were certainly wealthy, and some things they say in the book make it seem like they are flaunting that. I understand why many people have a bad impression. However, this is really just the perspective of two grieving parents going through their worst nightmare made worse by a media circus and serious shortcomings in the investigation.

The Ramseys talk about their strong faith, and Patsy talks about her battle with ovarian cancer. This family was definitely quite wealthy. They had a private aircraft and a large house. Patsy also felt like an outsider as a southerner out in Boulder, Colorado. I understand why the public had trouble relating to them. They had an extravagant lifestyle by most standards.

The case of JonBenét Ramsey has always fascinated me. I have vague memories of the news coverage as a child. We were close to the same age. This book is (not surprisingly) a lot to stomach so far. John and Patsy have narrated the events of Christmas Day and the 26th when they discovered her body. Their grief is immense.

I finished reading Mark. It starts out with Jesus as an adult being baptized by John the Baptist. Then he gathers disciples and travels around teaching and performing miracles. Many of the miracles entail casting out demons. He speaks in parables and surprisingly says that he does this so people WON’T understand him. At the end he is crucified and a person says he is resurrected, but no one actually sees him.

The Bible is a collection of multiple books, not just one book. However, Goodreads has no clear-cut method to log the books separately. My workaround is to log the individual books in “progress” notes such as this one. Hence, I’m about halfway through Mark right now.

This story is really meeting my expectations. I enjoy that it changes perspectives by chapter, each one about a different character. So far, the plot is very similar to the HBO series with small details, particularly ages of characters, being different.

I’ve just begun reading, and it’s very good so far. My partner and I devoured the HBO series and are onto House of the Dragon. I need to go deeper into this world!
