Beagin probably writes really funny personal essays, but her style does not work for a novel. The ironic tone forecloses emotional resonance/ character development/ sexiness/ enjoying the book in general. Fun premise, but god gives his kookiest ideas to his most mid novelists.

Radden Keefe is mad talented, both as an investigative journalism and a writer, both in this book and “Say Nothing”. The pacing, the balance of delicacy and intensity in his treatment of the subject matter, the compelling profiles of dozens of actors, etc
