I’m also very enamored by the wonderfully detailed Biblical references and symbolism in this novel.

Black’s story feels like a history lesson and a bedtime story all at the same time. The way Jacob talks about his life is so striking and fascinating, I can’t but it down.

Ouch… “We knew the limits of medicine and science, and most accepted them without question.” Truly speaks to the time of life prior to the 21st Century.

Wow… The most heart wrenching part of this is that the prevalence of moments like this occurs all the time, and just like it went undiscovered here, it goes unspoken of for far too long. Black boys and men deserve to have full, long lives. Black girls and women deserve to live full, long lives. Black Lives Matter.

The Authors Note alone makes my heart ache for the black families of the past. I can only imagine what the rest of this story holds.

The land is now speaking to Ophelia the same way it speaks to Mama Day. Now that we also know what is says, I feel bad for her.

George’s love for Willow Springs and Ophelia is lovely. I love that for her

“no one can beat a southern woman at manipulating a man.” Both a philosophical truth and hilarity that the Day women execute with flair 😂

I love Mama Day’s interactions with George and Ophelia. I can’t wait to get to the climax of the book

I’m a little confused, but I assume this has to do with the leper comment?

Somebody oughta do a character study on Dr. Buzzard because I feel like there’s so much there.

I wonder if Mama Day is aware of her presence in George’s dream… Her character is one where I’d think she sees/knows all. It makes me wonder how she cultivated this knowledge/ability to be able to garner so much from so little.

I’m glad George feels at home with the Days. Even more so that he accepts them for all that they are.

I’m so ready for the second half of this book👀😁
