If I had a nickel for every time I was ready a novel where the protagonist befriended a speaking cat who had a long royal title but consented to a shorter nickname in June of 2026 I’d have two nickels which isn’t a lot but it’s REALLY WEIRD it happened twice

How is it possible I’m reading two books where someone talking to the protagonist is unexpectedly crushed to death in the first 10 pages. That’s like…two nickels I guess but it’s weird it happened twice….weirder imho

Syenite and Alabaster are so much more compelling than the other storylines but those are fascinating too. This book is fantastic

Back on my “people dying on mountains” kick and revisiting this gem I haven’t read in 13 years.
