Well, got through the first icky sex scene (MF only!) and I'm still alive, so...

Look, ma, I'm reading a book with heterosexuals in it! (Hopefully. I haven't got to the very heterosexual parts yet. We'll see.)

I've stalled on this for now. I'm not DNFing it, because I'm going to finish it... I'm just not committing to it only. I never thought I'd be in an open relationship with a long-dead Russian author, but here we are.

For some strange reason (I blame my sudden interest in writing a Fae changeling story) I find myself reading the sequel to a book I didn't like, and this one is almost worse? Confusing scenes, bad dialog, and the sense that the author think she's being clearer than she is... and yet I keep reading it. Will wonders never cease...

I think I’m done with the War part for a while at least!

I'm struggling.

War is boring, and I don't even understand half of what they're saying, because I am not a Napoleon expert, but I feel as though I must persist, even though I've never been one to stick with a book if I'm not feeling it.

But here I go again...

Volume 1, Part 1 down! Woo hoo! Prince Andrey is gay, right?

I'm not saying that reading this tome is physically dangerous, but I am saying that my neck has suddenly started hurting...

Piece of cake!

I love Winterson -- I've had a WoW character named after her for decades! -- but this is just not working for me. It's very different than what the blurb suggests, and if this is criticism, like the subject label in the book's back corner says, then it's political, not literary, and even then, it mostly just reads like the a series of op-eds in the local newspaper... so far.

One day I hope to write a chapter as perfect as Chapter Fifteen.

No real action plot yet, but I don't care!

So far, SO good! (Thank God.)

Since this book has the best title of all time, it also better be the best book of all time or I'm going to be highly, highly disappointed.

This is like two different books in one.

This book makes me the think I’m going insane. I keep thinking the MC is a trans man, but the book keeps saying he’s not but then the author keeps doing weird things that make me think it’s supposed to be ambiguous… and I hate hate hate ambiguity! Ugh.
