This book feels like the inside of my brain when I was taking caffeine and anticholinergics (officially antihistamines) at the same time. This is how I learned that Covid does in fact impact the cholinergic system

The book feels a bit like watching a spider weave a web after you and the spider have both had six cups of coffee (complimentary)

Sometimes I wonder if I pick up books on sickness bc I feel some evidence of a sickness coming on that exists below my conscience ability to register it. Sometimes I wonder if certain books carry the power to make people sick. I don’t know which one this is, but I’m like two chapters in, and I don’t feel super awesome, friends.

Hester is a saint. Henry is the WORST. Genuinely failing every possible good husband AND good person test and inventing new ones to fail along the way. An expert in boyfail.

There was a time in my life when I might’ve said the villain monologue here is too unrealistic. Unfortunately this is just how politicians speak now. They’re saying the same things the villain of this juv. fiction book is saying. How is this timeline real

CRITICISM OF PSYCHPATHOLOGIZING DIAGNOSES LET’S GOOOOOOOO

Why did it take like 2 hrs/12% of this book before the author started in earnest with the decolonizing therapy part. Why was the first two hours just statements reminding us THAT decolonized therapy is needed. Girl, we KNOW. You don’t have to convince us!

If the function of education is to, at least in part, train individuals in how to access and effectively utilize their own memory then, man, what are we even doing rn? We’re screwing it up in so many ways, and we HAVE the research to confirm our errors. WE GOTTA DO BETTER, MAN.

This narrator’s cadence and inflection is unlike any I’ve ever heard before

Reading this feels like being trapped in conversation with my slightly drunk conviction-prone great-uncle in 2017. Dude, what are you on about? Replacing one dogma (religious conviction) for the next (certainty in the scientific methods of any given moment) is not an antidote to totalitarianism. The world changes. Knowledge changes. This book is already quite extreme in its understandings. I am wary.

To the rhetorical question of how often do you try to memorize meaningfulness nonsense material: frequently. This question underestimates the amount of time, energy, and memory storage childcare workers dedicate to memorizing entire libraries of nonsense made by children. Ebbinghaus makes a lot of sense to me.
