Really enjoying it thus far! Dr. Mackis is an excellent writer, explaining complex concepts simply enough that my plebeian brain can grasp them, but still making me feel smart by not coming across like she's dumbing it down. I am loving all the scientific terminology and diagrams!

"Just desserts," not "just deserts." This is the second time she's used the wrong word.

Why does it feel like this book is taking forever to get through? I've had to renew it once already because I'm just not that interested.

"A reading major, that's what he wants. No response papers, no exams, no analysis, just the reading."

That's what I wanted, too, dude.

I love this book so much, even more so the second time around. I'm tandem reading and listening to the audiobook like a weirdo, but the audiobook is excellent and I like experiencing Empis this way.

I don't think I can keep reading this. I hate the main character so much, and I'm only 3 chapters in...or maybe less, I don't know as I'm hate-reading it and not paying attention. I think I'm going to walk away from it and return at a later date.

I didn't expect this to be so brutal. I'm invested, and the book is excellent, but I can barely stomach some parts.

I am so confused and I can't picture the House in its immense complexity. But I'm digging it.

Well firstly I had to Google whether this was a true story or not.

Secondly I dislike Kubodera with a passion. Hero worship much? Total unreliable narrator. I felt slimy reading his intro.

Thirdly, I'mfeeling very detached reading thus far. Hopefully that will change as I get into Perina's story.

Meh.

OK, let's see how Ceony's infatuation with Mg. Thane is going.

Also: THERE BETTER BE MORE FOLDING. That's what I want to learn more about.

I'm 8 pages in and already tired of the smiling/burning eyes and lingering glances. And teachers shouldn't give red roses, paper or otherwise, to their apprentices.

So the story has been wandering all over the place. I'm all for little peeks into the daily lives of the characters but I think we've strayed too far from the plot...which I'm not even sure I remember. Some of the events are trite; the events leading up to certain important conversations could have been more creative. Only 9 chapters left.

Note to self: do not attempt to read during childrens' Taekwondo class as concentration is impossible.

I'm invested in the characters but holy cow, if this book isn't one of the slowest ones I've ever read. It's almost painful, how slowly I'm reading it and I can't quite put my finger on why.

I'm enjoying reading this book to the older child who's enjoying listening to Anya's adventure. Very cute story! The plot does move slower than I thought, but I'm invested in the characters so I don't really mind.

Loving this book! I'm trying to read slowly so it lasts longer!
