The last few chapters have been a slog.

“I couldn’t help but think, as we walked around a man polishing a row of decorative weapons, that burdens were easier to bear when you sat on feather pillows.”

“It took witnessing it happening, in person, for me to realize all the abstractions were real. And even then, I tried my very hardest to look away. It’s hard to accept what you don’t want to see.”

Not sure about this right now, the beginning really grabbed me but I’m losing interest in the lack of plot.
