So far the writing is meh

Monumental

Peak cozy

Next up on my fall reading list

“Gram had been born a slave in Georgia, and when Mazelle was six, she had asked her what it was like to be enslaved as a little girl. Gram had patted Mazelle’s head with teary eyes.

‘They sold my mama away. Pulled me out of her arms. It still hurts,’ was all Gram had said.”

😭😭😭😭

“Often father and daughter look down on mother (woman) together. They exchange meaningful glances when she misses a point. They agree that she is not bright as they are, cannot reason as they do. This collusion does not save the daughter from the mother's fate.”

An enchanting and intriguing first few chapters

Giving this another shot

Pull me out of my slump, Paul Tremblay you little freak

Loving this

“In her desperate need, she cried out for a protector and a protector came - then a second, and in due course a third… they were the champions she had crafted in her imaginings as she laid on her sick-bed. They wore the faces of her three brothers, but they shone as bright as candle flames in the darkness.” 😭😭

Tbh loving this!!! Fun fast read

Loving!! Back on my medievalish vibe

Thoroughly charmed

Truly loving

Liking this still but feeling like I need the middle to get going a little quicker

Wait Brielle and Erika I think you would like this

“One day…, I saw a poor girl who was being marched along by two policemen. I do not know what was the matter. All I know is that she was weeping bitterly as she kissed an infant only a few months old, from whom her arrest was to separate her. Since that day I have never dared to despise a woman at first sight.”

😭 wasn’t expecting compassion and empathy for prostitutes in 19th century France

Tbh this is kind of bumming me out lol. I hate reading about bad postpartums

Still cranking thru this, still loving it

Whoa hunger games is that u

Wait this is just Greco-futuristic Harry Potter

Better but I’m still waiting to be really hooked

Not sure if I’m in the right headspace but let’s see what happens
