Pondering question "What does it mean to be equals in Psychotherapy?"

Wow, this book is succinct and wise and beautiful!

There ARE passages in here that are real gems! I WILL finish this weekend!

I'm getting to the point one gets to in DFW's long fiction, in which we start a long sequence out with tons of useless details and negligible conflict or philosophy, to the point where there are sixteen footnotes per run-on sentence (one of which goes "I'm not the kind of author to add and end note to ever miniscule useless detail, bc an author who would do so is blah blah...) If I finish, it's bc of the book's hype.

I picked up this book after hearing LaValle talk about mental illness, monsters, and family cults on NPR's Fresh Air, and I was surprised when I started his book at how simple his style seems to be, almost like he's writing for young adults or something. But, after a couple of pages I'm like "OH so THIS is his style," and it seems he can really tell a story and say a lot with it. Next time I'll read for hours.

Loving the stream of consciousness and wandering mind style, and have already had couple huge laughs
