I like the book so far. It is an articulate book with a lot of hidden messages that F. Scott Fitzgerald may or may not be implying for the reader to identify. I like the subtle details in which he provides.

They talk about how O´Dell worked for the Shanghai police department before the war. He said he was the only local one in the department as a lot came from other places. They said he disobeyed orders and was killed. I think the book is going along very slowly but is still interesting.

Some new characters are being introduced and given a background. I like the description that John D. MacDonald uses to give us a picture of the characters.

The narrator talks about his struggles of constant migration and school. He said he quit school around 8th grade because he felt degraded for speaking Spanish. He always had to travel from California to Arizona and back. He worked on a farm and tried to memorize a part for a play and didn't end up getting it. He was really mad about this which ultimately lead up to him dropping out of school in the 8th grade.

So far, this book is very appealing and relate-able. It talks about the working and class and the struggles of physical labor. This is very much like school as both are stressing and unnecessarily hard. For example, we go to school for about 7-8 hours a day. We also get 2-3 hours of homework each night. We are basically working overtime. So did the main character so far in this book.

The book is getting a little bit boring. Lots of conversations. There was one interesting part where some people tried to trap a character and he ended up surviving.

The book is getting very intense as the characters seem to be plotting murder in order to earn money. I think it is getting very interesting as they seem to risk it all for a reward. The overall plot of this book is juicy but some of the intentions are concerning as some of the main characters may die or get greatly punished for their extreme actions.

The book is getting very interesting. It is still introducing some of the main characters and defining their personalities. It seems to be very dark in some ways but overall it is pretty good so far.
