Cocktail Hour Under the Tree of Forgetfulness
This book was as luminous as her first. She shares her parents' hilarious and tragic journey through Africa with intimacy and dry humor. I loved it.

Sing, Unburied, Sing
I love the poetry, and beautiful characterisation, but I found there were too many metaphors and not enough nuances in this story.

The Gustav Sonata
Tremaine does such a beautiful job with creating characters and atmosphere. She's one of my new favorites.

What the Day Owes the Night
This book started so well but ended so badly. The lyrical prose disintegrated and the story dissolved around halfway. Perhaps it had something to do with the translation. At least I hope so because this English version did not meet the other rave reviews.

Midlands
I think this, or at least parts of it, should be essential reading for privileged white South Africans. It gives such important insight into the roots of racism and hatred that we still see in our nation.
